A/N: This is actually something I've been playing with in my mind for a while. I ended up writing this during class(writing/drawing during class actually makes me pay more attention, because my hands are busy. XD), so I apologize if it seems a bit rushed. I mostly just did this for the humor anyway.

Enjoy. ^^

"But…Mello…I…" A young child with big, grey eyes and dressed all in white frowned as his blond rival dragged him across the cafeteria.

The blond, who was two years older than the other one, looked over at him with cold blue eyes. "Stop trying to wimp out of this, Near!" He forced the five year old into a chair.

Near winced as he was forced down, glancing over at Mello - the blond - as he sat down beside him. Mello's best friend, a redhead named Matt, set down several cartons of chocolate milk in front of them.

"Right, the first one to finish all of their milk wins. If one cannot drink all of it, for any reason, they automatically forfeit!" Matt explained. "No one is to make funny faces to distract any of the combatants whatsoever. Any jellybean bets are to be made to me."

"Just tell us to start already!" Mello snapped, pounding his hand on the table.

Near sighed. What had he gotten himself into…? This was not going to turn out well at all…

"Alright, alright, Mello!" Matt smiled and raised his arm up in the air. "Ready….? Set…" He quickly waved his arm like it was a flag. "Go!"

The two sprung into action, both grabbing a carton and drinking quickly. Near knew this was one of the stupidest ideas had thought of, and even wondered why he even accepted the challenge.

But he knew why.

Both of them were childish, and they both hated to lose. That was why the two of them were so suiting for the next L.

Near swallowed a mouthful of chocolate milk the wrong way. He started coughing, pounding his chest to help him swallow. Matt glanced at him with a worried expression, but that faded when Near gave him an "I'm okay" thumbs up and went back to drinking.

Soon after, Mello slammed his final empty carton down on the table, panting. Near calmly set his down seconds after.

"Hah! In your face, Near!" Mello yelled triumphantly, standing up. He looked like he would start doing a victory dance any time now.

Near merely shrugged and stood up. "I must go study," he announced quietly. Silently, he slipped out of the cafeteria.

"Hey! Wait up!" Mello ran after him, terrified that Near might get any further ahead than he already was(which, actually, wasn't that much at all).

Near stopped in the hallway and turned to look at Mello. He seemed paler than usual…

"What is it, Mello?" the albino asked gently.

"I'm going to go study, too!" Mello answered rather loudly, falling into a walk beside his rival. The two walked on towards the library.

Mello glanced over at Near. His face almost matched his hair; he was so pale. The younger child let out a small moan and put his hands over his mouth. The blond stopped walking and turned to face Near. "Are you okay?" he asked.

Near shook his head quickly. "M-Mello…" he groaned. "I'm…lactose intolerant…" He gagged and turned to Mello.

Mello's disgusted scream echoed off the orphanage walls.
