Genesis always left behind an origami paper rose on the pillow in the morning. Zack would have much preferred to have the man remain with him, but that seemed to be against Genesis' nature.

He had nearly begged him every night he stayed to remain until the morning. Genesis would always say, "We shall see," and smile at him. The smile always made him relax as would the soft kiss that would be placed on his brow.

There was always the hope that - this time - when he woke in the morning, there would be more than a paper rose.

When he opened his eyes, Genesis would be gone and a paper rose would be lying on the pillow. He would open it to find a saying from LOVELESS or a promise of when he would return.

Today there was one more thing left beside the rose. It wasn't the man that he craved but a simple black feather that lay beneath the paper flower. He held the feather in one hand and the rose in the other for a moment before he began to unfold and read which passage that Genesis had left him.

He was a bit startled to see that the paper was blank. There were no words, no message and no promise that he was going to return.

… and now, he didn't even have the rose.
