Author's Note: I am in no way connected to the Vampire Diaries (show or books) and therefore own nothing (as much as I would love Damon =D) This is just a random little one shot.

He moved his gaze up from my exposed neck to meet my eyes. "Why?" he asked, genuinely confused.

"Because you're my friend. Because I'm you're friend. Because I trust you. Because I care about you," I put my hands on his shoulders, "Because you're hurt. And I don't know what else can possibly help. Because maybe if I show you that you deserve kindness and understanding and compassion and happiness and trust and," I faltered here, "and love, then maybe you won't be in so much pain."

His eyes wondered back to my neck. He reached out and rubbed the pad of his thumb down the sensitive skin there before lowering his face, burying his head in the crook of my neck. I closed my eyes expectantly, waiting to feel his lips and then the sharp fangs of his teeth, but they didn't come. Instead, I felt him pull away.

"Open your eyes" he whispered, his hot breath on my face. I complied. His face had been transformed, his eyes darkened with hunger, the veins around them bulging and his fangs now visible. "Are you sure this is what you want?" his voice was still a whisper.

I smiled and moved my hands up to the sides of his face, pulling him forward so our foreheads were touching. "Yes, I'm sure." I gave him a small kiss and released his face. He lowered his head back to my neck and this time I did feel his lips leaving a kiss there, and then I felt his fangs brush against the same spot before sinking into the vein and drawing blood. A gasp of surprise escaped my lips. It wasn't the pain, indeed it was the lack of pain that caused the reaction. The gasp gave way to a moan as the anticipated pain materialized as pleasure. His hands gripped my hips, pulling me up against him and my hands wound in his soft black hair. "Damon." I couldn't stop myself from moaning his name. It was at that point that he pulled away, carefully retracting his fangs. He licked the last remains of my blood from the small puncture marks and looked up at me, his face returned to normal, eyes shining blue once more. He wouldn't look me in the eye; in fact he looked away, ashamed.

"Sorry" he muttered.

I pulled his face up so he had to look me in the eye. "Well, I'm not. And you shouldn't be either. That was amazing." I smiled at him.

"But you…"

I cut him off. "That wasn't to get your attention so you'd stop," I had to hold back a chuckle at the misunderstanding, "that was purely out of pleasure." To prove my point I lightly pressed my lips to his lips which were currently tinted red with my blood. I pulled away and gently brushed my fingers down his cheek. His fingers traveled softly over the new marks on my neck and finally, for first time in a long time, I saw Damon Salvatore smile.
