Are we all sitting comfortably? Good. Our story begins in a city far far away called London. This was a bustling place that, as the phrase goes, never stopped moving. People – ordinary, normal, boring people walked its streets, filling their days with idle chatter, pointless hours spent trying to scrape in just a bit more money than everyone else and other such dull things.

Now the hero of our story wanted nothing more than to free these people of their earthly chains, show them just how meaningless their existence was. This ravishing young man was called Jim Moriarty – The Consulting Criminal.

Now, Jim had quite a bit of fun in London, really giving its citizens something to talk about, helping out his clients and business partners but after a while this all got a little monotonous. It was the same old same old every day. Yes, each job required a new mindset but they rarely ever made him think. Not what ordinary people perceive as 'thinking' - I mean, really think. No one understood him. No one truly appreciated his genius.

And just when he felt like all hope was lost, that putting a bullet through his brain was perhaps the only option left someone caught his eye. Our dashing hero found someone who was just like him, someone who could understand him. Someone who would appreciate him.

It was too good to be true! Sherlock Holmes was his name. A tall, brooding guy with the most delicious cheekbones and piercing eyes and...oh, I'm getting off track aren't I?

Well Sherlock was the perfect distraction from living. Jim gave the detective little problems to solve and watched as his consulting detective ran around getting all in a state trying to solve them. Oh did Moriarty enjoy those few months.

It was the big night. The night that he would finally meet his arch-rival face to face, watch his brow crumple as Sherlock tried to figure out what was going on. Oh he was so excited!

It was an incredible night. John Watson, an intimate friend of the consulting detective was dragged into it and he did not disappoint. Most entertaining. Ah ordinary people.

After a few slight changes to the plan Jim let them go, and before he knew where the time had gone an entire year had flown by! He'd ruined a few plans of the government, dabbled in the illegal and illicit, kept a very close eye on the consulting detective but had yet to really come back, to really make himself known once more.

But that was all going to change of course.

It was exactly one year since they had met face to face. One whole crazy year.

So Moriarty had wanted to do something really special for Sherlock, to show him how much he appreciated it all. How much he appreciated him.

And on that special, day it all went wrong.

Dedicated to Cherish the Look of Surprise – check her stuff out. Pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Happy Anniversary!

I wanted to spend some time getting the story perfected so I don't know how long it'll take to get up. It won't be more than another chapter or so as I just wanted to set the scene with this one. Don't expect a massive multi-fic here. Anyway, I'm excited to finish the story and hope you guys like it! :D
