A/N: I wrote this when my mom was in surgery last week. I also want to thank WeBuiltThePyramids who did a quick beta check. Thanks again!
He watched as she was wheeled away by the nurses. They said it was a standard procedure; that there was nothing to worry about. That did not stop him from casting one last worried glance at his wife take out and waited. In the last appointment before the surgery, he took the doctor aside the questions. What are the chances? Will there be any lasting impacts? This was not the same as fighting bad guys or monster of the week.
Afterwards, he took to Bruce and even Tony and asked again, "What are the chances?" They looked over information and Tony had even Jarvis hack into anything he could find on the subject. Tony finally took him aside and said, "Legolas, she will be fine. If she can taser a god, keep up with Bruce, Jane, and myself, and basically run Coulson's life then this woman will be fine. You have our support in this, okay? Both of you will get through this."
Natasha came to him later that evening and spoke to him in a tone and way he had rarely heard. "You listen to me. It is okay to be worried, but please your wife has enough on her hands without you hovering. You worry about her and let us worry about you. The procedure is tomorrow morning, so go to bed; your wife now is asleep."
He walked to their suite, into their bedroom, and paused to stare at her sleeping form. He never thought in a million years that he would settle down with this pint-size smartass and could not imagine his life without her. After getting into bed, he pulled her into his arms and whispered that he loved her and would protect from anything. She stirred slightly and he began running his fingers through her hair soothingly to settle down and she whispered his name and fell back asleep. He took a deep breath and finally relaxed enough to fall asleep.
He was pulled back to the present when Steve asked him a question. He turned around and looked at his makeshift family. Everyone was there, Hell even Fury and Hill had made an appearance. He sat down, turned to Steve who had asked the question and waited.
A short time later even though it felt like days, the doctor came out. He explained everything went smoothly and his wife was awake but very groggy and was asking for him. He stood up, relieved, and shook the doctor's hand, and then proceeded to walk to her room with one last glance at the team. He sat down in the chair by the bed and took her hand and waited.
