This is going to be a collection of short glimpses into Obi-Wan's life both before and after The Revenge of the Sith, focusing on his relationship with Anakin and its effects on Obi-Wan before, during, and after the younger man's fall to the Dark Side.

Warning: Contains implicit Obi-Wan/Anakin slash.

Inspired by Blindside's 'Silence'.

Takes place a short while after the events of The Revenge of the Sith; Obi-Wan has restlessly adapted to his life as a hermit on Tatooine.

If I Held My Breath

I exhaled and the hot air left my lungs in a burning wave. The last of the sun's rays were slowly disappearing beyond the shimmering horizon and night was descending across the ocean of sand.

I closed my eyes as the stifling heat lifted to make way for the cold night; I had been in this desert for months, but the transition from light to dark was still difficult for me. I found more than just my own demons waiting for me in the shadows, more than just my own silhouette projected on the ground by starlight.

I let my mind drift into sleep.

And then I was by the gentle sea of that time so long ago, calm waves gently caressing the sandy shore of a mission long past. Long gone. And then he was there. Him. Shimmering into the landscape like a being of mirrors and light.

We walked along that ghostly shore of wind forever, until the twilight of dawn began to creep across the serene landscape, threatening to break the suspended silence of our shared dream.

A ghost of his touch caressed my cheek, and I finally reached my hand toward him, to discover if he was but a mirage of the desert. He nodded and smiled, as if touching him would bring him into reality. Would it? I began to think it would. Yes, it would. I knew it would. The tips of my fingers brushed against his hair. It was still the ghost of a touch. Or the touch of a ghost. But I could make him real.

The harsh light of day suddenly shattered our beautiful illusion. His image faded even as I reached for him with all of my soul.

I inhaled and the air scorched my lungs. The sun had risen, and I was alone again. At least until the sun fell from the sky once more.
