That moment when you see stars

studding the sky above,

And your vision blurs at the edges;

Bubbles of light streak your eyes,

And your heartbeat slows.

You crumple to the ground,

loose like a ragdoll, and

Breathe easy, because you can,

And you don't feel it.

That fleeting moment,

Fragile as a butterfly in autumn,

When your eyes flutter closed

And that small smile can tease

The corners of your mouth;

When you can close your eyes

And not be scared, or be weak,

And there's no danger.

You can see only the darkness

You long to succumb to, and

After such a long time,

(Seven years)

You can listen to those words

You so longed to hear:

It's over, at last.

And you sleep,

Because for the first time,

You can.
