I own nothing but an insane amount of love for this movie.

He leaves Citadel with a full tank of guzzoline and not much else and he drives until the sun goes down, about two hours out. He sleeps inside of the vehicle, he wakes up and get back behind the wheel. He drives. He passes through the valley of the scavengers with as little trouble as can be expected. Another hour or so out from there, he spies the wreck of one of the vehicles that had pursued them a week ago. He gets out of the car, even knowing that everything of some use will already have been taken. He walks around the twisted mass of metal and stops when he sees a long, tan arm, motionless and stinking in the heat. He lifts the wreckage he can to reveal most of Angharad the Splendid, and then he stares at her remains. She haunts him now, her and Nux lining up with the others. He hauls her into the back seat, wrapped in a blanket, and then turns around. He doesn't need Furiosa and the rest of the Wives to bother him as well. He stops for Nux's body as well on the way.

Capable cries in front of the crude graves they construct. So do Cheedo and Toast and The Dag, but Capable is the one to sob, for though they are all mourning for two, she is the one who is missing the second.

Furiosa does not cry, but her lips purse in a way that suggests that she would like to. But she doesn't for reasons that don't quite have words. She is standing a bit behind the other women, and Max a few steps behind her. He strides forward and, without looking, reaches up to put a hand on her shoulder. He feels her tense and then relax, but she doesn't look at him either.

They lie naked on their backs in her bed, sweat cooling in the night air. They pant. She rolls into fetal position, facing his side, and he wraps his arms around her as her body shakes. She weeps as she did when she discovered her home was dead, but there was no place for him there. Here, there is. This, they have both suffered, and so her runs his hands along her body in slow, steady motions as she shudders apart and then pulls back together, uncurling and laying her hand on his chest and her head on his shoulder. They fall into their respective restless sleeps.

When he wakes in the morning, he leaves. He takes a full tank of guzzoline, some water, some food, and two blankets. He doesn't know if he'll be back, but he'll figure it out on the way. (He thinks he probably will be, eventually.)

When she wakes up, she is alone and unsurprised. He'll be back eventually. He'll figure it out on the way. Furiosa gets dressed and goes downstairs to run a city.
