Half Life 2: The Story of Gordon Freeman

Prologue

"Wisely done, Mr. Freeman. I will see you up ahead."

Gordon Freeman found himself in nothingness. The G-Man, who he saw all throughout the Black Mesa Research Facility, including heatedly arguing with his mentor, Dr. Isaac Kleiner, had somehow put him here.

Gordon's time spent in Stasis was antagonizing. Bits and pieces of his memory of the Black Mesa Incident were floating around his head, driving him mad. Time itself did not apply in the infinite darkness, so the doctor did not physically grow. Gordon Freeman was on the brink of insanity when he saw the G-Man appear right before his eyes. Gordon felt a strange sensation as if something were pulling him from the forsaken darkness of Stasis as the strange man spoke.

"Rise and Shine, Mr. Freeman, rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply you've been sleeping on the job. No one is more deserving of a rest than you. All the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... Well, let's just say your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes."

The image of the inside of a train began to come into view as the G-Man slowly disappeared.
