So Talk To Me

She opened her eyes slowly as she heard the annoyed sigh coming from the bed beside her, followed by a creak of the bed as the occupant tried to find a comfortable sleeping position on the old, worn mattress. Slowly, she rolled over so that she was facing him, resting her head on her hand and elevating her body slightly.

"Cloud, are you okay?" she asked softly, seeing him sit up in the dark. The moon shining in from outside illuminated his form. She saw him glance at her, knowing he could see her because of the mako in his eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine Aeris," he answered eventually, his voice showing his tiredness.

"Can't sleep?" she asked softly, tilting her head to the side. He nodded slowly and flopped back down onto the bed. She made a small, sympathetic sound. "Do you want to talk? It might help you sleep," she suggested.

He glanced in her direction before he slowly sat up, stretching slightly and giving a light shrug. She watched him lean over and switch his bedside light on, her eyes scrunching up at the sudden light that blasted into them.

"What do you want to talk about?" he asked, lying on his back and rubbing his forehead with his arm. Aeris was silent as she thought it over, surprised that he was actually wanting to talk. She supposed, he was that desperate for sleep.

"I don't know," she replied, giving a small laugh. "What do you want to do after all this?" she asked. Cloud glanced up at her for a moment before shrugging.

"I really have no idea, I guess I'll just get a job somewhere," he replied.

"Wow that's exciting," she replied teasingly, giggling when he threw a mock glare her way.

"Alright, what do you want to do?" he asked, sitting up properly. She shrugged,

"I want to get married and have children," she replied softly. Cloud gave a small chuckle that died in his throat almost as soon as it had emerged.

"Typical woman," he teased, a half smile tugging at his lips. Aeris mock glared, giving a small pout as if she had been offended.

"You don't want a family?" she asked, tilting her head to the side as she studied him. He was silent for a moment before he gave a slight shrug.

"Well, yeah," he replied. "If I found the right girl."

"So you believe in soulmates then?" she asked.

"Soulmates?" he repeated, giving a small laugh and shaking his head. "No. I just think there will be a girl out there who will...well, I don't know...accept me." The blonde shrugged and gave a long, heartfelt sigh. Aeris played with the material of her nightdress, her eyes fixed on the task as she answered.

"Yeah, I wish for something like that too," she gave her own sigh and looked up, locking eyes with his. They stayed gazing at each other for a moment before the flower girl felt her cheeks going pink and she looked away. Cloud seemed to snap out of his thoughts too, his cheeks turning a similar shade of red.

"Well, goodnight Cloud," she said suddenly, sending him a smile and curling under her covers. Cloud glanced in her direction and gave a small nod.

"Yeah, goodnight Aeris," he replied, switching off the light beside him and settling down into the pillow. It didn't take long for him to hear the Cetra's soft breathing, indicating that she was asleep. He gave another sigh, a soft whisper escaping with it.

"I love you."
