Teach Me

Chapter 1

"That's a nice ring Lexie," commented April.

"Thanks," smiled Lexie. "I um saw it the err other day in town and thought it was nice."

"It is," smiled April, before she walked off from the nurses' station.

Lexie glanced down the little sliver ring that graced her right fourth finger. A little sliver heart with an amethyst in the centre and the sliver ring joined to the sides of the heart. Mark had gotten it for her, a promise that he would tell Derek, a symbol to show that he was all in and a physical reminder of their relationship.

She glanced at it again.

"You need to stop that," whispered a voice next to her.

She glanced up to see Mark next to her.

"Pardon Dr Sloan?" asked Lexie, a smile on her face.

"You keep glancing at that ring with a smile on your face … people are going to think you're engaged," whispered Mark.

"I can't help it, it's pretty," smiled Lexie.

"Lex," said Mark.

"Ok, I'll try," whispered Lexie.

"You know I've got some time before my surgery," whispered Mark.

"I would love to lock myself in an on call room with you, but I have to get to the pit and Derek is stood up there glaring at you," whispered Lexie.

"See you tonight?" asked Mark, in a whisper.

"As always," smiled Lexie, before she ran off.

Mark glanced up to the floor that overlooked the lobby and saw Derek glaring at him. He saw him move - he was coming down. With that, Mark headed the opposite way towards his OR to make sure everything was in order.

It was - he had known it would be, he had just wanted to avoid Derek. He had this surgery and then he would be free to go home, to Lexie, to his hotel room.

He didn't know what Lexie was doing to him - it had only been a month. but he was thinking about apartments. He didn't want to rush things with Lexie, but he felt himself changing into a decent guy, a guy girls could look at - Lexie could look at - and think' I could have a relationship with him not just a one night stand'. If he was being honest with himself, he could see a long relationship with her.

His rhinoplasty was flawless, as usual - well, it was routine surgery that he had done millions of times. He scrubbed out and while he waited for his patient to wake up, he messaged Lexie to let her know he'd be about half an hour.

He was right - five minutes later, he had a happy patient and ten minutes later, he was out of the hospital. Within five minutes of leaving the hospital, he opened the door to room 290 at the Archerfield to find Lexie curled up on the sofa Chinese take away in front of her and the TV on. Smiling, he went to join her.
