A friend of mine was sad for no Varric flirts in DAII, but I found that some of the dialogues in game could be taken as "flirty" if you stretched it. I also like the idea of relationships that are mainly platonic, so the idea of a VarricxHawke would be something like this in my mind. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it!

"What would I do without my strong, handsome dwarf around?"

It was a joke. It was an offhand comment that was brushed aside for bigger fish that needed frying. No one paid it any mind.

But while Varric flirted with the girls at the Hanged Man's Tavern, he found that Hawke did as well. It wouldn't have been so strange, but she never went further than that. The dwarf remembered Isabela's exasperated sigh and Anders's moan of disapproval. The champion had shot him down simply for making a comment of her beauty.

"It's like she doesn't have any feelings for anyone at all," Anders said in a confused tone, splayed out over the table with a mug in his hands. Varric nodded solemnly, his chin nestled in his hand.

He hadn't paid that remark any mind until he realized that it was the only time she ever said anything like that.

"What would you do without me?" he had asked in a mocking tone after a particularly fantastic heist.

Hawke simply smiled at him with a slightly cocked head. "I couldn't bear to think of being without you, Varric."

Their relationship had never reached a peak that many assumed such relationships entailed. Varric and she were far too busy finding ways to get into trouble out of Aveline's watchful gaze, but of all the people she knew, she stood by him the most. That action spoke her feelings loudest of all.

"Are you sure the champion had no other, deeper relations? The many rumors claimed very differently." Seeker Cassandra asked all those years later. Varric simply steepled his fingers and smiled.

"Cross my heart." And secretly he hoped Hawke would forgive his selfishness as he left their most important little secret out of his tale.
