"Okay, what do I need next?" Barbara asked herself as she stared at the grocery list in her hand. She was planning on making a dessert called "Caramel Cashew Clusters" that she had found on Wally's tumblr blog that morning.
She had asked Wally if he wanted to come over and taste test them for her and of course he said yes right away. She soon got to thinking, however, that it would be nice to get together with all her friends and just hang out at her apartment. Her friends included Robin, Artemis and perhaps Miss Martian. She was planning on doubling the recipe. It would make 40 servings of the mini dessert which seemed like it would be more than enough.
She studied her list.
"Okay, I got the caramel. I got the cashews. The chocolate chips, the vegetable shortening and the vanilla extract."
She looked harder.
"Oh!" She said. "I need to get heavy cream."
She grabbed her grocery basket and headed off to the dairy section. "Heavy cream...heavy cream..." She said to herself as she looked all over the shelves for it. "Ah, here it is." She said grabbing it. "Well, now I just have to pay and I can getting to baking these."
Then she heard a vocal expression of someone needed help. "Eh, eh!" She turned around to see a Vietnamese woman in a wheelchair trying to reach some milk. "Eh!" The woman said stretching her arm even more.
There were many people around, but, no one stopped to help her. Naturally, Barbara walked over and grabbed the milk for her. "Is this what you were reaching for?" Barbara asked handing the woman the carton of milk. "Yes, it is. Thank you so very much." She said. The woman reached out to give Barbara a hug. Barbara knelt down to her level and hugged her back.
"Thank you so much, dear." She said.
Barbara smiled. "You're welcome. Have a nice day." She said as the woman rolled away. "You too!" The woman called back.
As Barbara payed for the items in her grocery basket, she couldn't help but ponder what it must be like to be crippled and confined to a wheelchair. It must be just horrible, especially if you didn't have anyone around to help you out with even little things.
Barbara was just glad that she was able to help out the woman. It made her feel good inside.
