Serena opened the fire exit and went out on to the windy rooftop. It was a while since she had been out here. Her preferred escape was the peace garden or the bench closest to Pulses. This was Bernie's and she could see why. It was spacious and gave an air of freedom.
She started over the metal steps over to the vents where she knew Bernie may be. She looked across to see Doctor Copeland deep in thought.
"Oh hello Ms Campbell, we don't often see you up here. Looking for Ms Wolfe?"
She smiled and nodded.
"I'm afraid you missed her, she left about 5 minutes ago, surprised you didn't cross on the stairs."
"Ah, dammit, maybe my incentive to take the stairs instead of the lift eh? Thank you Doctor Copeland."
She smiled brightly, she had always liked Mr Copeland and she knew that he and Bernie got on famously.
As she walked away Dominic called after her, "Ms Campbell?"
"Yes," She answered as she turned to face him again.
"I hope one day somebody looks at me the way Ms Wolfe looks at you."
Serena blushed, "You noticed?
Dominic did his signature laugh, "HA, you can see it from space Ms Campbell. You are probably the only person who did not see it from the start."
"Um, how long has she…?"
Dominic laughed again, he found Serena's ignorance to the blatant crush held by Bernie hilarious. He was glad that they were now together though, Bernie seemed the happiest he has ever seen her.
"Well, if Ms Wolfe has not told you, is it my place?" He rubbed her arm as she sat next to him, hoping to coax the information out of him. She nudged him and gave him a cheeky grin. "Oh Okay. Well, when did she start work here?"
"Months ago, the day my car went kaput."
He pointed at her, "Then! You made a good first impression it seems."
They both laughed, "Seriously I've never seen Ms Wolfe so happy. I don't see her on the roof as much anymore. I think she comes up more for me." He laughed and Serena reciprocated the laugh.
Her phone bleeper went off, "Ah, seems Ms Wolfe is on the prowl, I better descend back to the madness. See you later Dr Copeland."
He waved and grinned. "Oh and don't worry, someone will look at you like that one day. I promise."
She disappeared through the fire exit and took the lift, the stairs can wait until tomorrow.
