People lose things every day. They lose keys, erasers, coins, balls, pens, wallets, eyeglasses; all little things that don't really matter because they are so easily replaced. However, they can also lose their way, their jobs, their homes, their hopes, their dreams, their minds; things that do matter because they're not so easily replaced.
But… loosing a person is different. You don't lose a person all at once.
Her smile, her frowns, her wide blue eyes that were wise but curious. Her scent from her pillow cases, from her dresses, from her fancy gloves and hats. Her voice echoing gently through the halls; her warmth radiating off her body that made the cold winter nights seem almost bearable.
Gill never knew his mother.
Her sweet, sweet lullabies, and her not so sweet scoldings.
He was so young when she was alive; it's no surprise that he didn't remember her.
Her laughs, her cries, her tears, her ability to seem so content and happy, even on her death bed. She would not let her family, her son, to see her pain.
Gill was strong, Gill was independent, Gill was organized, and Gill knew how to handle himself without any help.
All gone forever.
Gill doesn't lose things.
From instants, to moments, to memories, to dreams, to wondering if any of those times actually happened.
So why does it always feel like something is missing?
