The color of a lightsaber is not dependent on the color of the crystal contained within, but on the character of the person harnessing the crystal's power. The crystal itself is clear as ice, which disguises it in the ice caves of Ilum. The blade of a Sith Lord is crimson because it metaphorically 'bleeds' when it is enhanced. These enhanced crystals were once 'healed' by a Force wielder, resulting in the blade turning a brilliant white. A purple saber reflects wavering between the dark side and the light. This blending shows that the wielder is tapping into the dark side but remaining in control of their emotions. A blue saber shows a strong sense of justice, and a will to protect, while green portrays peace and sometimes wisdom attained through the force. The Jedi Consulars wielded green sabers, while Guardians typically carried blue. The shade of any blade color varies even more between individuals, reflecting their specific character traits. This fact is used by lightsaber duelists of highest degree to discover their opponent's tactical weaknesses and exploit them by the color of their blade. Although many different colors are seen, the crystal itself does not determine that fact.
