Bruno Mars—Marry You
Once upon a time, he had loved the sound of music—the more upbeat, the better. That had been before, when he had been young, naïve… Before Albania.
Now, the song was annoying. It ate away at his patience, little by little, just like everything else did, until his wand flew out and the radio simply exploded. Confounded Muggle contraption—he didn't need it anyway.
Also, he realized, perhaps the song upset him so much because it made him think of her. He hadn't seen her since before Albania, after all… And he loved her desperately. But he could never go back to her—not like this.
He would have married her in a heartbeat, before. Now, that wasn't an option. Now, his only love was power.
Toto—Africa
The African village was small, with straw huts scattered here and there almost haphazardly… Exactly what you thought of when you pictured a third-world country, he realized. He had sent an owl to Lizzie every day while he was there, telling her how much he missed her and all about the daily happenings in the village, because he knew she would love it. That sort of thing had always fascinated her, and she had wanted so badly to come with him when he had left… But her own job got in the way of that, and she had been forced to stay behind and wait for him.
He wished it had turned out differently, sometimes—that she had come along, shared in these amazing experiences with him… But on the other hand, there were some things he had encountered that he knew she didn't need to see. Perhaps this was for the best.
Eagle-Eye Cherry—Save Tonight
Those nights had been all that kept him going, for a while. Clandestine meetings, making a romantic evening out of nothing… There was nothing romantic at all about tea in a professor's office under the pretense of helping a struggling student cram for an exam that both of them knew she was going to fail spectacularly… And fail she had. The first class she had ever failed, and she was devastated.
It hadn't been enough to keep her from graduating on time, of course, but that made it that much more bittersweet. The last evening in his office, she had cried, and clung to him for as long as she could, and it had been all he could do to keep himself from crying as well.
Sometimes, he felt like it just hadn't been enough.
Repo! The Genetic Opera—Seventeen
She had been a rebel at seventeen. He remembered that. Until her final year at Hogwarts, she had followed every rule, never so much as sticking a toe out of line. And all of the sudden, that had all disappeared.
That was when things had started getting out of hand, he supposed—when she had decided she didn't care anymore, and started openly pursuing her. But he had let her. He knew it was wrong, but he let it happen. Deep down, he liked the attention.
Smash Mouth—I'm a Believer
Quirinus Quirrell had never been much of a ladies' man. Hell, Snape had better luck with the ladies than he did, usually. And that was why he felt like he was so lucky to have Lizzie.
She was a prime example of love coming from an unexpected place—student/teacher romances usually were. But the taboo quality of their relationship strengthened it, he thought—they both knew it was wrong, so it became that much more important.
He had never believed in love, he realized—not until Lizzie had stepped into his classroom. At that moment, love finally seemed real.
