Sugary Deserts

Why is it that he eats cake, candy, and other sugary deserts? Light wonders, it is the greatest detective in the world after all. It isn't a particularly important subject, but it did perk up a few questions. Like, when has he started eating these things? Has he ever gotten sick by eating them? Of course, the question of how he doesn't get fat has been answered by the little bicker Misa and L had had. Really though, what make sweets like them so special?

Light, although doesn't hate them, isn't very fond of eating sweets. They give you cavities. Even if you brush, floss and use mouth wash, you still have a chance of getting a cavity and they don't help… at all. Also, even if he uses his brain to burn the calories, it still doesn't prove that you wouldn't get fat. And Light Yagami wouldn't ever get fat. He's too proud.

Even with all of this proof that sweets does nothing but trouble, the greatest detective in the world still chooses to endanger his health by eating them. Light just can't understand why. Sure, sweets taste good and sometimes they make you smile, but so does healthy things, right? 'At least L likes fruit and that's something', Light thought.

Then Light came to another thought, 'Why was the only healthy thing L ate fruit?' Light shakes his head, this is so pointless but still, Light wanted to get to the bottom of it or it would eat his soul forever. Light, in his quest to find out the truth about L and his sweets, turns towards L. It is probably some complicated reason he likes them that resulted in telling something about L's past, then it would leave Light wondering till the end of time.

"Hey Ryuzaki… may I ask you a question?" Light asks.

L turns away from his work and looks at Light. "Of course. What is it?"

Light shifts uncomfortably at the gaze. This question would be quite weird but he guessed it couldn't hurt to ask and it's better than it tearing him apart by the thoughts and assumptions. "Well you know how you like sweets? Why do you eat them so much?"

"What an interesting question… nobody has ever asked me that before. They would just automatically think it was some depressing reason and they didn't want to bring up past memories. I never understood where they got that from." L said, licking the piece of the donut he has left.

Light chuckles nervously before mentally crossing out all of the assumptions he has made previously. "Well, are you willing to tell me?"

L nods. "Yes I will tell you, it isn't very interesting though."

"That's okay Ryuzaki, it will probably be enough for me."

"The reason I like sweets is because they taste good." L explains.

Light blinks, that's it? They taste good? Surely that can't be the only reason. No, why does he devour them 24/7 if he only thinks that they tasted good? "That's it? Aren't you worried of getting cavities or getting sick or anything?"

"I do floss and brush my teeth well, as you should have noticed while being chained to me. Before the Kira case, I did go to dentists regularly and I do have doctor's appointments. I make sure my health is somewhat acceptable before I can keep working on cases." L said.

"Don't you think that the sweets are a little overly done though? I mean, you eat them a lot and you hardly eat anything else." Light pointed out.

"I think for being the greatest detective in the world, I can eat whatever I feel like eating." L says dryly.

That automatically shut Light up.
