Author's notes: This really is quite short. Hope you like it?? I'm not sure how to write for Mikuru and Kyon.
--
Neither of them stare at each other as they sit in the clubroom after everyone has gone. Mikuru hugs Kyon, crying into his chest. He says nothing but embraces her and buries his face into her hair. There is an older woman on his mind who probably does not exist anymore; not since this has happened. The promise has been broken. Was this inevitable to happen? Or has he just ruined the fate of the earth?
Her cries are mumbled as she tries to recover from Haruhi's antics from today.
No one knows exactly what happened that caused Mikuru to break the rules, and why Kyon has broken his morals and stopped caring about the world.
But here they are, sitting in silence.
"Kyon-kun…" Mikuru manages to mumble before going into another bout of crying. He does not respond, but listens as she brings up the idea that Haruhi has found out about the two, or that her jealousy has overtaken her.
He sighs.
The world would not exist at this moment if any of the above happened; Kyon is the one who knows Haruhi best. With a smile, he props up her chin softly and assures her that everything is all right.
It is, right?
Mikuru can't end her fit of tears, even as she looks into Kyon's eyes. She knows that one day she will not be able to revisit here.
The consequences are spelled out for her. Perhaps the communications she has from her superiors will just stop reaching her at all.
She is a murderer.
Signs have been showing themselves everywhere. Anomalies popping up in every corner. Haruhi leaves earlier. She has a face of gloom when she tries to confront Kyon. He does nothing; he turns away because he wants to be faithful.
And so, she does not tell Kyon that this is the true reason that she is sobbing so hard today.
While he comes in closer to her delicate lips, she pulls back and only hugs him. He wants to say something to comfort her and say her name, but Kyon still finds that he cannot call her 'Mikuru'. So he simply brings her closer while her cries begin to silence.
He realized and still realizes what he has done and he has immense guilt.
To this day, he does not know just what it was that long time ago that made Mikuru come to him like that.
Was it Haruhi's will?
Maybe it's because she's given up?
Whatever it was.
It's a good thing, Kyon thinks.
While these thoughts run through his mind, Mikuru stares up at him with eyes like glazed amber. "I…" she is about to say something from gratitude, but decides against it. She's fully recovered, but something from the corner of her mind lingers.
They are the last to leave, so, as Queen Haruhi decreed, they are to clean up and shut off all the electronics. They leave together.
Mikuru smiles and points out a romantic sunset. Kyon teases her and they touch shoulders. It's almost as if nothing will happen and they erase all previous thoughts from their minds as they walk.
What would Haruhi think of this scene? Kyon knows Haruhi can't know. She most likely doesn't know.
Luckily, the world's timeline will probably end before she can figure it out.

A/N: Short. And interesting. I apologize if this lacks substance; I didn't exactly think this one over.
