At three in the morning, Rick stumbled to his front door, cursing under his breath, trying to yell "Coming!", but yawning loud and clear instead.

Milo was at his front step, looking worn out in his wrinkled suit. His face was unshaved, reminding Rick he had said he'd be heading right to his apartment at the end of that hellish shift, ready to sleep through the next few days and no, he wouldn't be dropping by later, thanks anyway, but he'd call as soon as he felt ready to rejoin the human race.

Rick rubbed his eyes and tried to smile. "Glad you changed your mind, but you woke me up, so breakfast's on you."

Milo did not smile back. "Mind if I crash here for a coupla days?"

Rick frowned. "What's wrong?"

"I'm pretty sure I got evicted." Though "pretty sure" was an understatement. Milo'd gotten home past midnight longing for his bed, only to find his stuff (from his old armchair to his underwear) in the corridor, waiting for him. The smaller items had been carelessly thrown in a cardboard box and were just waiting to fall on the floor. Perplexed, he nearly knocked the landlord's door down - Milo had been late that month, but no more than a couple of days and he could pay the rent that very morning as soon as he could find an open bank.

The old man didn't wanna hear about it, yelling through the closed door he had someone else moving in the next morning already. When Milo insisted on the knocking, he threatened to call the cops if he didn't step away from his door.

"I am the damn cops, asshole!" Milo had barked back and kept slamming the door until it hurt.

After realizing there was no use making noise, Milo considered asking Alex for a temporary roof but he didn't wanna crash in his guest room and get a therapy section in the morning. Sleeping in his car was an option, but he opted for trying Rick first. It could be too early in their relationship to ask for any big favors, but the thought of spending the night with him was soothing.

Now, at his doorstep, Milo sees his face turn shocked and thinks he'd suggest they drive back to his place and force the old man to give him back his apartment because that whole situation was absurd. However, neither of them seem to have the energy for a fight and he simply takes his hand and pulls him in. "Lets get some sleep and we'll figure it out in the morning."

When his head hit the pillow, Milo felt the weight of the past four days crashing his whole body down. Rick smoothed his hair once with a very weak hand, saying, "Everything will be fine."
Milo fell asleep before he could decide if he believed him or not.
