A/N: I'm just in an angsty mood and this came out. I feel there might be another like it.
She is slowly dying in his arms and there is nothing he can do about it. Earlier, he had playfully suggested that they could remove their clothes for more body heat, but she had grabbed his ear and tugged until he was saying the word 'apples' as fast as he could. That was the last hint of a smile he has seen on her face and he misses it terribly.
He is holding her as tight as he can, hoping to instill some kind of warmth back into her body, but he knows that it is of no use. His fingers are blue and every breath hurts a little more than the last and no matter what he does he cannot stop shivering. Castle feels her hand pressed to his chest and he knows that she is feeling how slow his heart is beating.
"Kate." his voice is soft as he shakes her a little. She has become silent in the past few minutes and it makes him worry. She has been running an almost constant stream of commentary since they got locked in here and to have her be this silent is unsettling.
She moves a little and he almost lets out a sigh of relief but her words cut him off. "I just wanted you to know how much I lo-"
And then her hand falls from his chest and he holds her tighter as his voice comes out in a shaky mess. "Stay with me."
That's the last thing he remembers before he closes his eyes as well.
