Title: Not So Different
Drabble: #39
Rave's prompt: Straw
Randomly selected pairing: Takari
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: At last, one of the most popular and adorable pairings in the Digimon fandom! And I've just realised that there are two types of straw… so I'll pick one and hope it's the one Rave meant.

It's always the way; no matter where Takeru and Hikari go, whether it's a posh restaurant or the pub down the road, whether they want a proper meal or just a drink and some chips, Hikari will always ask for a straw. It's just how she is; Takeru has concluded that she must feel awkward drinking straight out of a glass. Even when they're at home, in private, she'll drink with a straw. It can be quite an awkward habit, especially if they're in a bar and drinking beverages of an alcoholic nature. On more than one occasion, Takeru has had to defend Hikari from unpleasant remarks made by strangers about her child-like practice.

To celebrate their three-year anniversary, they've booked a table for two at one of the nicest restaurants around. Takeru, as he drives them towards their destination, keeps stealing glances at Hikari out of the corner of his eye. He knows that she'll ask for a straw with her drink, and it's about time that this was addressed. But what can he do? It's not like he can just ask her to stop drinking through straws; that wouldn't be fair. So he formulates a plan.

They arrive and are taken promptly to their table, and after a short while of looking over the menus a waitress appears at their side. Notebook in hand, she asks if they've decided on drinks, and Takeru gestures for Hikari to order first. She smiles, orders mineral water and, as predicted, asks for it with a straw. The waitress raises an eyebrow, although the movement is barely noticeable and she says nothing, and turns to Takeru. There's only the slightest hint of reluctance on his part when, after asking for a coke, he requests that he also be given a straw.

This time it's Hikari who raises an eyebrow while the waitress walks away, but Takeru merely responds by reaching across the table to take her hand in his, a lopsided grin on his face. Why try to tackle the problem when he could just join in?
