Disclaimer – I don't own Bleach or Free!. I wrote this story for the Bleach: Diversity Writing Challenge. The challenge for a.89 is to write a story for which I've written 10% of my fics for. I have so many stories though that I figured it would be more fair to write the story for a character I've never written for before. For this I picked Haruka from Free!. This story also ties into my fic Drowing. The readers do not have to read it, but it will give a different understanding of this one-shot if one does read it.
Saved!Stream
A soft breeze blew off the stream that moved at a moderate speed. Haruka knelt by the stream watching as the slow moving water moved by, the deep waters interesting him. Makoto noticed the dark haired boy staring at the water. "It's too cold to swim in the water. We actually happen to have a nice training facility this time around. I personally like the atmosphere."
Rei pushed up his glasses. "I personally don't think this is a nice training facility. The school budget doesn't really cover for a facility that is state of the art. This said..." The boy looked towards a bridge crossing the stream. "... I have to admit that this place is aesthetically pleasing."
Go let out a deep sigh, her arms crossing across her chest. "I just wish they would take us more seriously."
Makoto smiled. "Now, now... it's really only us on the team. We may be at a level that can compete with the other teams, but we're still a small team."
Nagisa's face twisted up into a pout. "Still..."
"We don't exactly have the place to ourselves." Go complained. "Budgets...
Voices were heard coming from the center as a girl and a boy left the place. The boy had white hair. "Are you sure you don't want to swim with everyone else Toshiro. It is supposed to be your break. Why not enjoy it with everyone else?"
"I'm positive." The boy headed over to the bridge while the girl let out a sigh and rolled her eyes.
Go blinked a couple of times. "Am I mistaken, or does that kid have an amazing muscle structure for his age?"
This caused the four boys to look at her while the teacher simply smiled. The two kids had reached the bridge and the boy went to lean up against it with his back. A cracking sound was heard and the boy fell towards the water. The girl tried grabbing his arm, only to miss. Haruka blinked a couple of times. "He can't swim."
"What?" Nagisa looked at his friend in confusion.
Haruka had already torn off his shirt and dove into the stream. He fought the current and grabbed the boy. Rei and Makoto reached down to help pull the two out of the water. The white haired boy spluttered as he clutched onto Haruka. Setting him down they saw the boy blink two bright teal eyes. Haruka's face was suddenly in the boy's. "Your eyes look like water."
The young teen's face reddened. Rei pulled him back. "Come on. You're scaring the kid."
"I am?" The boy blinked a couple of times. "His eyes really do look like water."
The girl came rushing forward and wrapped the boy in a hug. "Toshiro!"
"So you really can't swim?" Makoto leaned down. "You should learn to swim in case something like this happens."
The boy pushed away, grabbing the girl's arm. He looked over his shoulder, glaring at the boys. "I already know that."
