When I Begin to fall, you always Catch Me
Alice Inamorata
She felt herself slipping away; slipping into the dark, into nothingness. Into a place where she would fall endlessly, letting the air wrap its arms around her and pull her down further – further down until she couldn't breathe anymore. Breath begins to escape from her, tears falling endlessly. Life is falling apart. All she ever knew was gone.
Texts gone unanswered. Screaming down below. No one to hold, no one to hold her. She begins to shake again. It's become normal. She shakes when she's scared, nervous, sad…because she holds in everything. Doesn't let it out; lets it become her. She lets the fear show in her eyes; lets others know that she's sad by showing no smile. A constant frown, eyes diverted to the dirty ground. She notices every speck of dirt, every scuff mark.
Home now. Divulge into some homework and make sure it's fully done.
Three hours later. Time to eat.
No sense of hunger.
Wanting to avoid the fight. Avoid the darkness.
Curl up in the blankets and sleep. Maybe everything will be okay when she wakes up.
Then it's the next day. Drag out of bed and put on some clothes only for them to be drenched in slushy.
"Hey.."
Look up slowly and actually…smile. "Hi Quentin."
"Are you okay?"
Shut locker. Turn. "I'm fine."
"You haven't been in school for a week."
"Don't worry about it."
"Baby.."
All robot movements are done as she turns into his arms. He wraps them strongly around her and holds her tight, running his hand over her smooth mane of hair. She can't help but feel her knees buckle beneath her as she falls full force into him, tears rolling, people staring. His hazel eyes stare them down, make them keep walking as her tears stain his football jacket. "It's okay, Rachel…I'll always be here."
