Disclaimer: not mine, I just like to play with them. Will put them all back unharmed.
A/N: Oh, not about Colby.. How'd that happen.
Guest Speaker.
Don swallowed nervously, picking up the sheaf of paper in front of him and tapping it on the table, even though the pile was already perfectly straight. He swallowed again as his audience filed into the room silently. That was quite disturbing, the silence, he'd never seen such a large group of people so silent. His eyes flicked to the group's leader, and he decided this was not a man he wanted to mess with. He swallowed again, disgusted at himself for being so nervous, he took a sip of the lukewarm glass of water provided for him and wished for the hundredth time this morning that someone else was doing this.
How he wished he'd pulled rank and sent David or Colby to do this. Except David was already volunteering at the youth center today and Colby had a "booked well in advance" day off, Don has skirted around the subject of getting Colby to do this today and thought that the younger man was going to draw his weapon on him. So he'd dropped that subject like a hot potato.
Megan had caught him before he even raised the subject with her and after a five minute lecture about facing responsibility and not passing the buck, and besides it will be good for you, He figured he had better do the job himself. So this is how he found himself at nine thirty one Friday morning facing what was rapidly becoming one of his worst nightmares.
A small scuffle broke out at the back of the room, and two of his audience were rapidly separated by two deputies and forcibly seated apart so as not to cause further trouble. He watched the deputies move back to the edge of the room, they were good. He was still shuffling his papers when the doors at the back of the room slammed shut, it was all he could do not to jump.
The leader stepped up onto the stage next to him, he forced himself to stop shuffling the papers. The leader nodded at him and turned to the crowd. Don sipped the water, waiting out his last few moments of safety.
The Leader spoke, his voice effortlessly filling the room.
"This morning we have a special guest speaker, from the FBI, so please give a warm East Side Elementary welcome to Special Agent Donald Eppes."
Don swallowed one last time and stepped up to face the children in front of him.
