A/N: So, as the description says, this is a fic about Invisible Inc. Invisible Inc.'s a game by Klei Entertainment (so, yes, they own it - not me). And I'm kind of in love with it. All of it.
And I'm kind of in love with Internationale and Decker. Especially Internationale and Decker together. Anyway, this is my first time writing either of these two so bear with me if it's a little OOC?
Note: This is mostly based on my in-game adventures. Each of the missions mentioned happened exactly the way they say it did. The one they've just been on in this is the one I finished before starting to write this.
"Maria." The door slid open next to her. Decker stepped inside, the collar of his coat crooked.
Her head snapped up. Her back was pressed to the wall and her headset clinked against it as she turned. "Watch it, Decker." Her features were strained.
She followed him as he sat down on the floor across from her - the edge of his boot brushed hers. His legs were too long to fold up like that but he didn't seem to care. "I can't believe we got out of there without a hitch."
"Without a hitch? You nearly got shot. Three times." Internationale scowled, looking down to her left.
Decker's eyes narrowed. "And, to me, that's 'without a hitch'. I've had that cloak since god knows when, it's a breeze."
Silence.
"Come on, Internationale, I'm not talking to your headset. I'm talking to you."
For a second, she didn't move. Then, as if the muscles in her neck were rusty, she raised her head. "Do you remember that Sankaku Nanofab? You gave everything to Prism and made her leave you."
He looked from the exhaustion in her irises to the hand on her leg. "And you came back for me a day later."
"You could've been deprogrammed. You could've been killed." The word came out all faint. Maybe saying it quieter would make it less real.
"And here I was thinking you only rescued me so I didn't get chance to give the game away," he quipped, but the humour fell flat when she rested her head against the console next to her.
She shook her head. "Don't joke."
"Why now?" She gave him a questioning look. "Why does it bother you now? Why not...when we lost headquarters? Or after that time we tried to get Shalem back and it didn't go so well?"
"When we lost headquarters, I still thought we had some kind of stability. And that time? That time, I got taken out by a drone and it took Banks most of the mission to get me back on my feet again."
He swallowed. "I didn't know."
"You're not meant to. I make up for it with my augments." He tensed at the word, and her hand twitched - she was going to reach for his but then thought better of it. "Sorry, I... Sorry."
Decker considered her for a second then said, "Shuffle over."
She scooted the right, clasping her hands around her knees. His coat scuffed the wall as he manouvered to sit next to her. The moment she felt his hand curl around her arm, she turned into him.
He rested his head on hers. "Where did my favourite hacker go?"
"She's on holiday. Somewhere nice where the corps don't exist and equality does." She gave a small smile against his jacket.
His laugh shook her a little. "Think you can pass on a message?"
"Mhm."
Decker leaned back, his hand running through her hair. "Tell her that...I'll miss her while she's gone. But she can take as long as she needs."
A/N: Thanks for reading. ^_^
