"Get up Kiku." The young Japanese man woke with a start; a suit case was thrown on him and a barrage of clothes poured down on the poor guy. For a brief moment, Kiku felt terror because he thought Lien was leaving him. Though once he noticed she was throwing his own clothes into the suitcase as well, he just felt confused.

"Lien, what are you doing?" Kiku rubbed his eyes and peered through the morning light.

"Packing." His girlfriend flicked on the light, making him flinch.

"For what?" Kiku questioned Lien's intent. She paused, sighed, and leaned on the suitcase with her elbows locked. She looked at him for a moment before waving to the room around them.

"I'm tired Kiku, we live in a small town where absolutely nothing new happens. I feel cramped and claustrophobic…it feels like we're living in stagnant water. I want to go somewhere, at least for a little while," she confessed while gently gesturing to their surroundings. Of course her movements weren't going to explain her feelings much better, but she felt the need to do so, hoping it would provide some sort of emphasis.

Kiku simply offered a soft smile and climbed out from under the sheets. "Then where is it you want to go?" He watched Lien blink, slowly contemplating the question.

"I'm not sure. Anywhere...sounds good honestly." She pulled herself up from the suitcase, and sat on the space next to it, where she had previously been sleeping not that long ago. Kiku followed her and sat down next to her.

"Well, we don't have all the money in the world to spend right now, so let's start small. Like a road trip. Perhaps one all the way down to the Grand Canyon. We can stop at all kinds of places in between." Kiku's suggestion hung in the air for a few moments, the words slowly sinking into Lien.

"That's a long drive." She replied abruptly. Which was true, the couple actually lived in northern Oregon.

"Probably cheaper than a two tickets for a round trip flight, however." Lien had to give him that.

They talked a little longer, finalizing their plans, and making arrangements with a close friend to house sit while they were gone. Their cat, Noodles, they decided would be coming with them. There had been no qualms with their job because they were both freelancers. Everything was quite convenient actually. And finally they left by noon that day. Packing had taken up most of the time.
