Spoilers for episode... uhm.... crap.

Right. Spoilers up to episode 48!

I am so very very sorry for the horrible characterization. You never know. It could happen.

Actually, the real name for this fic is Never Again, but I already have a fic by that name, so I can't name this that.

I still don't own Fullmetal Alchemist.

It wasn't until moments before death that Envy truly saw the world.

It wasn't until moments before his death when Envy remembered his true form – a young boy named Edward with short gold hair and golden eyes, six inches taller than the boy who had killed him.

It wasn't until moments before his death that Envy not only found his heart, but found out it was big enough to forgive.

Call it an epiphany.

Envy reached up and touched Edward's face. Ed jerked away sharply, and Envy's hand dropped.

"Forgive him. Forgive him. He didn't mean to abandon you. You'll end up like me if you don't."

Ed stared while Envy closed his eyes and sunk into the ground.

He was numb.

He wasn't shocked like with Greed. Or remorseful like with Sloth. No pity, like Wrath and Gluttony and not even vengeful like with Pride and Dante.

Numb.

He was relieved, somewhat. Not because he had beaten Envy, but because he wouldn't have to kill again. Or so he told himself.

Because Envy was different. Ed hated Envy so much that it had evolved past hate, and he didn't know what he'd do if he allowed himself to feel.

And he told himself that never again he'd have to kill. Never again would he have to feel.

For a moment, he nearly forgave his father. At least, he had forgiven him for the abandonment.

He couldn't forgive him for this though.

Because everything that had happened was his father's fault, and his heart didn't have that much room in it.

Con Crit more than welcome. Flames will be mocked.
