Author's Note: I just wanted to write this to test the 'Star Wars' waters. Enjoy.
Silence
By EnigmaticPseudonym
One Shot
On a battlefield, one rarely experiences total silence. There's always a blaster going off, or an artillery piece pounding the earth. Your brothers are always screaming, medics' worn-out boots are pounding away at the ground, and Commander Cody is always barking out commands. The constant clicks from reloading blaster rifles and the eminent bursts of fire that follow rarely give time for silence to creep in.
Sometimes the closest you can get to total silence is a chirp from an indigenous flying creature or simply the wind whistling through the holes in your helmet. If you're lucky enough, your squad will walk worry-free by a babbling brook, a deserted town, or an unoccupied forest. When there is no gunfire, silence is always a tiny decibel away.
Every soldier dreads and dreams of silence. He dreams because with silence comes peace, closely followed by the powering down of blasters, of aircraft, of any other machine of war and destruction. He dreams of peace because it will erase all thoughts, sounds, memories, and feelings of death. He will be at peace. On the other hand, he dreads silence because darkness very often accompanies the peace it provides. Darkness forced upon you by a burst of light, a rumble of drums, or a flick of Fate's hand. It is this darkness that separates the mind from the body, that binds the senses, that destroys your humanity. Sometimes silence brings peace, but the last beat of your heart will be the sacrifice.
Alpha Company, KL-4538 or Kilo-38
We are about to face the Geonosians on our first ever deployment. The Republic Army is three hours into the fight against the Separatists, and our platoon will be the spearhead for the attack on their Command Center. As the drop ship inches closer and closer to the heavily fortified CC, all of us reach a common conclusion.
No matter how you look at it, silence can only be achieved if you fight. It's your choice whether you want a blaster to give you peace, or if you'll personally hand it to the Separatist leaders.
I'd prefer to give it to them.
