An Unexpected Change
Halfway through the companies Journey a storm occurs, and suddenly a member has disappeared. The member must find his way back to the company, with a help of a stranger. But how?
Hey guys! 2nd Fanfic, first based on "The Hobbit" Sorry for any OOC in this, but will try my best.
CURRENTLY BEING REWRITTEN BEFORE CONTINUING! See A/N at the end of chapter.
Enjoy!
A strange company consisting of 13 dwarves, a hobbit and a wizard, walking with heavy steps down the bear shaped rock. Down and down the company went, round and round the edge of Carrock. They were all shattered and every step felt heavier and heavier.
The leading dwarf was the most injured. Each step echoed through his aching, tired, injured body. The wargs teeth had thankfully not broken through his armour but had heavily bruised his torso, each breath was pained. But still he struggled on, determined to complete the quest.
The following 14 members were not injured; their arms and legs ached from the fighting of Goblins, the chase from the wargs and then having to hold themselves in the trees. By time they reached the Bottom of Carrock they were grumbling and needed a short rest. The adventure so far had been trying, both mentally and physically.
"We will stop for a short time. Clean yourselves up and get a drink from that river" Thorin commanded, and staggered over to the river, he was just about to crouch down when he saw Kíli and Fíli approaching him.
"Thorin, are you okay?" Fíli asked, concern written across both young dwarves' faces.
"Yes. Are you two holding up okay?" He said, stiffly straightening up. He glanced over his sister's sons, neither seemed hurt.
"Of course, we said we were up to this" Kíli grinned, happy to see his uncle was better already. Kíli was also proud of his uncle for seeing Bilbo as a member of the company, rather than a lost outcast.
Kíli felt he had the most to prove amongst the dwarves, he was the youngest, only just considered an adult. Being Thorin's' nephew he didn't want any special treatment, he wanted to please Thorin for what he did, not just for being blood.
The company stripped off their clothing and jumped in the river to clean, aside from Bilbo who rolled up his trousers and bathed his legs, sitting on the shore to rest his tired feet.
Before long a splashing war had been started between Kíli and Fíli, which soon involved the rest of them. Thorin didn't have the heart to stop them and wandered further down river to wash the dried blood from his cuts.
When the exiled king finished cleaning and wrapping his injuries the company got out and filled up their bottles with the water. The enjoyment of the water-fight had them feeling cheerier.
"Nothing dampens your spirits long does it?" Bilbo chuckled, glancing over the happier dwarf faces.
"I wouldn't say that, Laddie" Balin said "Except for at the start... I'd say we'll have it easier from now, a small rest, a quick clean and we can power on"
"And we have no wargs or orcs on our trial" Dwalin added.
The company kept walking, chatting quietly amongst themselves. Suddenly a huge drop of water landed on Kíli's head and he frowned into the cloudy sky.
"I think it may rain" Kíli warned the company,
"We'll be fine" Thorin said, wanting to carry on.
"As long as it's not as bad as the Thunder battle!" Bofur grinned; the others were not too impressed at the memory.
"Hopefully, but even before then we managed" Dori said, remembering the time through the tree's when Gandalf first spoke of Radagast.
The weather went from lightly spitting to raining big heavy drops; soaking the dwarves, hobbit and wizard, but then the sky was lighted up by a flash of Lightning, followed by a deafening clap of thunder.
"Kíli! Scout ahead for shelter" Thorin yelled. Kíli nodded and ran ahead, looking around, there were not many options in the open plains.
"So much for that stop to clean ourselves" Bofur dryly said.
"So much for trying to stay dry" Bilbo shivered, feeling the cold of the rain seeping through his clothes.
"There's a thick clump of trees, but that's all" Kíli yelled back "A moment or so away" Thorin nodded, seeing where Kíli was pointing.
"Not long till shelter" Thorin reassured the company.
Suddenly another flash blinded the company, when they opened their eyes; the rain had already started to ease off.
"Kíli!" Thorin yelled "Where are you?" silence followed until
"Kíli?" Fíli also yelled. There was still no reply. "KÍLI!" Fíli ran ahead, there was no sign of the black-haired archer, even though he'd stood in front of their eyes not more than a minute ago.
Fíli walked further ahead before falling to his knees where Kíli had stood a minute ago "Kíli?" Fíli repeated sadly, Thorin ran up behind him, the company frantically looking around.
"Fíli, where is he?" Thorin asked, fearing the worst, as he spied a small black circle of burnt grass.
"He's... gone. Thorin... Kíli... i think he's... dead" Fíli whimpered as tears spilled down his cheeks. The company circled round Fíli, still on his knees, a small sad gasp went around.
They had just lost their archer, the youngest member, Thorin's nephew.
Kiera leant out the window, the day had started off warm and sunny, but she looked up at the sky starting to darken with clouds, she looked at the strangely empty street, her watch beeped and she heard the distant sound of the church bells as it turned 3pm.
Suddenly a huge drop of rain landed on the back of her neck and trickled down her back. With a shiver Kiera pulled back into the house, the rain quickly getting heavy, she slammed her window closed and watched the rain. The street light up with Lightning, a clap of thunder following it, Kiera smiled; she loved thunderstorms!
A few minutes into the storm, a brighter flash of lighting blinded her. When she opened them and looked out there was a guy lying on the road. She blinked a couple of times in confusion, where had this person come from? She ran out, just as the rain had started to ease off.
"Oh my god! Are you okay?" Kiera stood over the guy; she looked at what he was wearing and frowned. He was wearing old fashioned clothing: A blue knee length tunic embroidered with two strips of gold diamonds, rough tattered boots, two arm guards, and a leather overcoat but most strange was the quiver slung over his right shoulder, and some leather bags. In his left hand he held a bow, which twitched. He groaned as he struggled to sit up.
"What in Mahal?" He asked, rubbing his aching head, his chin length hair sticking to his head.
"Mahal?" His eyes flew open at the voice, but blinked against the bright sky. Kíli squinted at the figure looming over him; the woman wore strange clothing, shorts that just covered her knees (Like Bilbo's) he thought. Her top was blue with a circle on it, words written along it and in the middle a huge white thing that seemed to be in the stars; Flying like a bird in space.
"Where am i?" Kíli scrambled up and looked around in confusion
"In London" She glanced at him and saw more confusion on his face "you know... The capital of England... You must have hurt your head" She bit her lip
"Who are you?" His deep brown eyes fixed on her face
Kiera smiled "My names Kiera! What's yours?"
Deep in his gut a voice told him to trust her, in a world so strange someone is helping. Fíli had always said he trusted too easily "Kíli"
Kiera briefly frowned at the strange name. "Do you want to come inside?" Kíli looked at her, and smiled slightly, before frowning again at the huge grey buildings looming around him
"Okay, thanks" Kiera lead Kíli into her flat. She watched him as he looked around with confusion and interest, frowning at technology, such as TV, phone and her game console.
Kíli looked at what seemed to be a huge lump, like a rock but with a shiny front to it, a chair faced it with a table next to it. The table had a cup coaster and a small rectangle rock with lumps on it. With words like 'on', numbers 0-9, and a few arrows in the centre was a button with 'okay' He picked up the rock, it was lighter than he expected and randomly pressed a button. Suddenly the huge lump lit up and Kíli yelled and dropped the remote and jumped back, against the wall. Watching people in the box move about and talk. There were little people in the box!
"What in Durin's name is that?"
"It's a TV..."
"A TV? What is that sorcery?" He snarled, instantly reaching for his sword
"Yes. It shows moving pictures- paintings?" Kiera tilted her head at him, brows furrowed "It's not sorcery, it's quite... normal?" Kíli glanced at her wide-eyed and back the TV before relaxing slightly
"Please don't hurt me!"
"I'm not going to!" Kiera said, walking towards the dropped remote to switch off the TV, she glanced at him worryingly.
"But, you're magical and clearly very rich!"
Kiera stopped the laugh the bubbled up inside her "No, I'm really not. Are you okay?"
"Yes, I come from a place so very different to this. Things like a TV do not exist and wizards do"
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked sceptically "Are you hungry?" She asked, Kíli whipped his head round, sending water droplets flying, and looked at her grinning widely. He hadn't realised how hungry he was until she'd asked.
"Yes! Meat please, whatever you have" Kíli hurriedly answered, Kiera laughed "What's so funny?" He sounded hurt
"You, you sound like you've not eaten in weeks. Sit at the table; I'll cook some sausages and bacon"
Kiera started making food, and soon her kitchen was filled with the smell of meat, the sound of Kíli's stomach growling and the sizzling of sausages and bacon in the pan. She tipped it onto a plate and served it to him "I'll be back in a moment" She said and left, just as Kíli started to wolf down the food.
She came back 5 minutes later, carrying a pile of clothes and 2 towels; she dropped them on a chair
"Here, these clothes should fit, they're big for me. There are two towels for you to dry off as well. Bathroom's down there, feel free to have a shower" Kiera said, pointing out of the kitchen.
She watched Kíli frown at the clothes and her, but smiled and grabbed the items and left the room. Kiera had just started to clear the table when Kíli came back
"How do you make the..." he thought back to the word she'd used "shower?"
Kiera smiles softly, "I'll show you" he followed her back to the shower. "So, the temp- warmth of the water should be warm enough. You need to pull this leaver to the left" She tapped the on switch then slightly pulled it until a drizzle came out "pull it all the way when you use it, I don't fancy getting wet!" She giggled. Kíli gave her and understanding nod, so she left the room.
Just as she finished he walked back in, rubbing his hair with a towel. He was now wearing grey joggers which fitted in all the right places, and a plain black shirt, slightly too tight and hugging him tightly across his slight muscular chest. Kiera breathed out a sigh
"Wow they suit you!"
"Thank you- i guess? They feel weird and tight, will they be warm enough? Also what should i do with my clothes?" Kíli held up the bigger towel, which now held his soaked robes, Kiera noticed he had his quiver and bag-packs slung over one shoulder.
"Warm enough? Of course, its spring time, i have plenty of hoodies if needed! I'll wash them" Kiera said, taking the heavy package off Kíli "I made you tea" She gestured to a cup on the table
"Hoodies? What are these you talk about?" Kíli was confused so much, hurt when Kiera laughed again. She stopped when she saw his expression and frowned
"Are you being serious? A hoodie is a jumper, with a hood, like your cloak, but it goes round your torso only and all the way round"
"Why don't you take me seriously?" Kíli sipped at the tea "mm this is good" Kíli sat down, Kiera following suit opposite him
"So, you're a guy who just appeared, a total stranger, in my house, clothed in what i gave to you and all i know is your name is Kíli... You do not know what TV's and Hoodies are; you claim to come from another world. You must tell me more"
Suddenly there was a flash in Kíli's eyes, and his mouth dropped open. "Oh no"
"What?" Kiera looked around wildly "What is it?"
"Thorin! The company! FÍLI!" Kíli stood, suddenly looking panicked "What happened to them!?"
"There was no one else, just you. What are you on about?" Kiera frowned
"The people i was with! My kin, we were all in a thunderstorm, but the lightning hit me and brought me here" Seeing her frown he realised he must've been the only one effected.
"There was no one else, Kíli" Kiera took a sip of her tea as Kíli sank into his chair. "Please, I cannot help you if i don't know anything else about you, tell me more?"
Kíli took a deep breath and told her about his world.
Silence filled the room; the cups of tea were now empty. Kiera gaped at him, "So... you're 77, a dwarf? And you're reclaiming your homeland from a dragon!?" Kiera glanced at the clock; it was now 4.15pm. Way too early for drunks she thought, she ran her fingers over her lips thoughtfully.
"Yes. What about you?" Kíli studied Kiera, her brown hair fell in waves around her face, and she'd twirled some strands round her fingers as he'd spoken.
"Well, I'm a human, race i guess would be man? I'm 20 and this is my homeland i guess, England."
"Well thank you for the warm welcome and the food, but really i must find them!" Kíli nodded his appreciation, going to stand up again
"What? No." Kiera reached out and grasped his wrist "Look... there is no such place as Erebor, or Middle Earth. This is Earth, but it's the only Earth and you're in London, and the year is 2013!"
"2013? I was born in the Third age 2864!" Kíli looked at her expression "You do not believe me"
Kiera hesitated "I do believe you, and i will help as much as i can"
A/N: I am now rewriting to get back into the flow of writing this story. I'm sorry for the length of time I've been inactive. I hope my writing has improved and I realised several grammar and spelling mistakes, however i do not have a Beta, so rely on you (my lovely readers) to help improve this story.
I am reviewing the entire story by chapters. I have no intentions of changing the storyline, just improving the writing itself. There might be added scenes but i will mention this at the start of the chapter
I also hadn't noticed i haven't updated this in 3 YEARS! So it might take a while to rewrite and upload, hopefully not years...
