Hiei was sitting on one of the few trees in the city. He was watching Yusuke and Keiko as they left a shop, Yusuke grumbling about how many bags he had to carry, and Keiko smiling and saying he deserved it for skipping out on school so much.
~Don't know who to trust
No surprise
Everyone feels so far away from me
Heavy thoughts sift through dust
And the lies~
Hiei stared at the couple, thinking. It was then that he realized he could not trust Yusuke. For when it came right down to it, he'd do anything for her. Even if it meant betraying their team.
~Trying not to break
But I'm so tired of this deceit
Every time I try to make myself
Get back up on my feet
All I ever think about is this
All the tiring time between
And how
Trying to put my trust in you
Just takes so much out of me~
That got Hiei to thinking. Could he really trust any members of 'Team Urameshi'? Not Kuwabara, certainly. For one, he always called him 'shrimp' and he also annoyed the hell out of him. Plus, he just was very untrustworthy. He seemed like the type to blab things out without thinking. Hiei suddenly felt very glad that Kuwabara didn't know that he and Yukina were twins.
~I take everything from
the inside
And throw it all away
'Cause I swear
For the last time
I won't trust myself with you~
But what about Kurama? Well that was kind of obvious. He was, after all, an infamous thief, a master of manipulation and deception. He would always have a demonic soul, no matter how many years he spent in the company of soft-hearted humans.
~Tension is building
inside
Steadily
Everyone feels so far away from me
Heavy thoughts forcing their way
Out of me~
Then Hiei thought of his sister. She wasn't a member of their 'team', but she was still the closest person to him, and the most important. Sure she was sweet, and he could probably tell her anything and she wouldn't tell… but why did he feel like he couldn't trust her…?
~I
won't trust myself with you
I won't waste myself on you
Waste myself on you
You~
Then it hit him. It wasn't that he couldn't trust his sister, it was that he couldn't trust himself. He was a cold-blooded demon, and no matter how much he loved his twin, he could not assure himself that she would be safe with him.
Hiei frowned, and ran off to say goodbye.
