This is what he wants, isn't it? The chance to undo his brother's mess, to prove himself worthy of kingship, to be loved like his dear brother...
Loki sneers and considers the fortunes again, as he watches the interrogation, the blank, disbelieving inward stare on his brother's battered features.
It was always amusing, what twisted turns his schemes could take, how an idea on a whim could become so much more. It was by no planning of his that Thor had been banished, or that the all father would fall into sleep and all of Asgard laid at his feet. Just a stroke of random luck that opened another door for him.
But still he felt a little remorse, more so when he acknowledged its nagging presence. He never wanted to rule Asgard, had given that up long ago. But now that he had tasted the power he could not let go. Now that he knew the truth, he needed this, needed now more than ever to prove himself worthy.
A burst of outrage at the lies he had been told, and what had been kept from him, crushed at his heart from all sides. He pushed it away harshly with a wall of spite and hate, directed at the one he loved the most. As if this would make things right for him.
As the black suited man finally leaves Loki slips into the glass chamber, invisible to the mortals eyes.
Thor looks up at the new presence in the room. "Loki!" he says, startled, disbelieving, and a little relieved. He made to stand, but for once he had no strength. "What are you doing here?"
"I had to see you, had to come tell you..."
"Tell me what?"
"Father is dead." Loki was not surprised how easily the lie came to him, nor was he ashamed. But the shock on his brothers face pained him, he could see something shatter in those sky blue eyes. Almost as painful as the fear Loki had felt when their father had fallen, and the shattering of his heart to learn his true purpose.
"Wh... what?" Thor breathed.
"The threat of a new war, your banishment... it was too much for him." Loki stepped closer, and put a comforting hand on his brother's shoulder. "The burden of the throne falls to me now."
Thor looked up at him with sad, hopeful eyes. "Then, can I come home?"
Loki did want him home, wanted dearly to rule his brother and show him his worth, equal if not greater to the mighty Thor! He felt powerful for once, now Thor was below him. A dark serpent deep within Loki's heart reveled in it, and he smiled with an expression of mick pity in his envy green eyes.
He straddled Thor's legs with is own and sat down upon his lap, looping his arms around the strong neck, Loki whispered sharply against his ear, "beg me."
Thor stared ahead, taken aback, stung and confused by his brothers actions. He made no response.
Loki bit his silver tongue, his angry heartbeat flush against Thor's broad chest. All emotion and hurt he had ever felt threatened to break free, as he waited for something else to arise and change his mind. But it never came.
Just as quickly as they were spoken, the words were wiped from Thor's mind, and Loki moved away from the embrace that was more real than intended.
"Brother?" Thor was staring at him, waiting for a response.
Loki swallowed a choking lump in his throat. "The peace agreement with Jotunheim is conditional upon your banishment."
"But couldn't we find a way?"
"And mother has forbidden your return..." This time it almost hurt him to lie so. But Thor couldn't know the truth, it had already gone too far. And after all Thor had done, he didn't deserve to come home. At least here he might find another life. "Im sorry," and he truly was.
A single tear broke free and trailed over Thor's cut cheek. "No, I am sorry. Thank you for coming here."
"This is goodby, brother." Loki turned away to hide his reddening eyes, biting back the bitter sting.
