Just a little redo of There's No 'I' in Team. Because, you know, I could.
"Hey, you okay?"
Callie looked up from the chart she had just grabbed when she heard Erica's voice. She took a deep breath and tried her very best not to look panicked and disgruntled.
"Uh, Bailey snagged all of the surgical residents and interns, so I'm stuck with the psyche interns. Not the sharpest." she said, scribbling something down on the chart.
"Okay, you're busy. I'll be brief. I was thinking…if you weren't on-call tonight, that uh, maybe we could, uh, go to my place." Erica said, almost averting her gaze. "Order in dinner, rent a movie."
The way Callie was feeling right now was far from the expression she was giving off. Erica wanted to get together. Again. After their disastrous…"first night". "Tonight? You want to get together tonight?"
Erica cleared her throat. "Well, last night was a lot of, um...fun."
"Fun. Yeah." She gave a fake smile.
Busying herself with the same chart, Callie was able to completely ignore the awkward look on Erica's face. The look the read, "Well, you seem to be into this so I suppose I can pretend to be into it too,".
"Anyway, ah, just let me know." Erica smiled, her lips just as fake as Callie's, and walked away.
"Right," Callie murmured to herself, turning around towards a patient.
Many tense and stressful hours of "Shit. Another night." later, the two women found themselves in an x-ray room, obviously examining an x-ray. Together. In the same room. Next to each other. Awkward.
"I've got a CABG in an hour…do you want to, um, get some coffee?" Erica asked, trying to act like they were actually a couple by placing her hand on Callie's back.
"I, uh, I-I can't do this."
Immediately, Erica removed her hand. "What, coffee?"
"No. This. Us." Callie turned away from the x-ray and brought her hands up to her head. "I'm not-I'm not cut out for it. The uh, the sex, and-and… Last night. Last night… I just, I just… can't do this." She looked up, expecting Erica to be disheartened.
But she instead got laughter.
"Oh thank God. I thought you had actually enjoyed last night's disaster."
And then Callie laughed too.
