Hi all! This is a little teaser of the sequel to House of Reunion. It involves the next generation of Anubis boarders and is set about twenty-five years after the end of Season 1 (circa 2036). This is just the introduction (or first chapter, depending on how things work out), and I don't think that I'll be updating this until House of Reunion is completed, which might be a while! As ever, I'd love any feedback and comments. You can also tweet me EveGlass_Author for further questions and requests.
I do not own any of the original characters from House of Anubis, but I do own the new characters, such as Sarah and Poppy.
Sarah
I'd had the same dream for weeks. It began with a raven's plaintive cries.
I was standing in the middle of the woods. The birches, oaks and pines surrounding me were lit by the eerie silver light of the full moon above me. The dream was so realistic that I could feel the breeze that rustled through the trees nip at my skin. I was wearing a white dress that was ripped and hanging off of my body, revealing the skin underneath. Blood purpled the dress' tight bodice. My feet were bare on the pine needles scattered over the damp earth.
I suddenly had the feeling that I was being watched. I looked up and saw an enormous raven, the biggest I'd ever seen, perched in a tree above me. Its black plumage shone petrol blue as it cocked its head from side to side, watching me with glittering black eyes. Its eyes were strange; they looked almost human.
Then, it spread its massive wings and dived out of the tree straight for me. I turned and began to sprint through the woods to escape the black bird. My heart was pounding in my chest. I could hear the raven's wings beating behind me. The low tree branches whipped my face as I ran, and I felt blood trickle down my cheek.
I stumbled and fell heavily on the ground. I managed to whip around just in time to see the raven plummeting towards me, beak open, heading straight for my throat.
I jerked awake, sweating and clawing at the duvet.
Poppy, my best friend and roommate, was sitting on the bed beside me, her face twisted into a concerned frown. "Sarah?"
"I'm sorry Poppy. Did I wake you up?" I asked breathlessly, running a hand across my sticky face. I paused a little at the place on my cheek where it had been cut by a branch in my dream, but the skin was smooth and unblemished.
Poppy shook her head, still frowning. "It's okay," She said. Poppy was used to being woken up in the middle of the night when I was having nightmares. "Was it the one with the raven again?" I nodded and lay back down.
"You really need to get some help with this…" Poppy muttered.
"No, I'm fine." I replied. I wasn't fine at all, but I didn't want her to worry. She didn't look entirely convinced.
After a few moments, Poppy stood up and went back over to her bed at the other side of the room. When I'd finally managed to slow my heart down to normal speed, I closed my eyes and tried to relax, but my body was like a live wire.
Some nights, I'd only get three hours of sleep before the alarm sounded shrilly, announcing another day at school. After a bad dream, I would lie awake until dawn, tossing and turning. Apart from Poppy, nobody else knew. Not even my parents. And anyway, whoever I told would just think I was insane.
I pulled the duvet up under my chin and curled up into a foetal position, trying to sleep. But every time I closed my eyes, I felt the raven's gaze on me, razor-sharp beak wide open, ready to slice into my skin.
