Over Again
By: Rachel L. M.
"And tonight will be the night that I will fall for you over again."
Bruce stood in the corner of the large room on one of the top floors of Wayne Enterprises. Maybe throwing a party for Gotham's new District Attorney wasn't such a brilliant idea as it had first seemed. Bruce knew somewhere in the back of his mind that Harvey Dent would bring Rachel to the party, but now that he had seen the way the DA lusted after her he straight up wanted to punch the guy. But he couldn't do that, both as Batman and as Bruce Wayne. First off, he couldn't ruin his name by punching the man who had won Gotham's heart. But he also couldn't punch the savior of Gotham either, their "White Knight".
Had Rachel been lying when she told him she would be waiting? Wasn't that something that good friends do? Maybe that's what she was, just a good friend and no more. But Bruce wanted her to be so much more. Maybe Rachel had finally seen what a horrible person he really was and decided to move on to a real good guy.
Now Harvey and Rachel were off to the side, laughing. Bruce decided that it was probably due to how nervous Dent looked. The man takes down half the mob and he was scared of these people?
Bruce looked up to Dent more than Rachel would believe. Well, actually, last time he tried to tell her she laughed at him. But he really did look up to everything the man was doing for his city. This time he just happened to look up and see Harvey kissing Rachel.
Harvey looked to the far corner of the room to see his host, Bruce Wayne looking quite angered. Though he wasn't sure why.
"You've known Bruce your whole life, right?" He asked Rachel, hoping she would understand the man better.
"Yeah, why?" She replied, straightening Harvey's tie.
"What's he so upset about…and why's he glaring at me?" He added the last part as Bruce turned to stare (scarily he might add) at Harvey.
Rachel laughed a little, turning to look at Bruce to send the message that he was scaring Dent and at first it looked as if Bruce thought about keeping it up, but finally turned away.
"Don't worry about it," she started "He probably just wants to kill you."
"Are you going to protect me, Ms. Dawes?" Harvey grinned.
"Always and forever."
And Harvey bent over to kiss Rachel again.
Bruce sat on the edge of the bed in his downtown Gotham pent house. He had that the evening's events wouldn't make him happy, but damn. He never would have guessed it would hurt like this.
He busied himself with taking off his shirt and shoes while he got lost deep within his self pity. He'd wanted her for so long and she said she would wait. Maybe it was time to give Batman up for good. His thoughts were interrupted when Alfred came into the room.
"You had your chance you know."
"Yeah, I know. But I'm going to pretend like I don't."
Author's Note: Please don't kill me D: I know it's horrid, but it's my first. Please, please review.
