Call Me Stupid

Things that should never change…ever

Pearl could be incredibly persistent.

She usually wouldn't argue about much with him. She'd usually stay quiet while he did whatever. She'd usually be the one listening to him most of the time – when she thought he was her bodyguard. She had known he had a point on a few things, which was why she listened in the first place. She also expected him to do the same for her whenever she gave Pearl and Diamond orders.

Although, most of the time he did listen, especially to her. She asked him to do a lot during their time together, and he'd listen - sometimes giving her lip – but listened none the less. Even when he realized she thought that they were her bodyguards, he still gave her what she asked and did what she said.

She still remembered when they told her the truth. She remembered when he told her the story of when Pearl and Diamond found out she wasn't their tour guide. She was a bit surprised that they still wanted to protect her when they realized the truth (although she didn't suspect anything when they swore to protect her. It was, she thought, their job in the first place). Even when Pearl and Diamond could have just left her there when they realized their meeting wasn't supposed to happen, they still did everything in their power to protect her and watch over here.

She appreciated it.

Before, she was a vulnerable, fragile little flower bud – or so Sebastian believed – and would often become the damsel in distress. She used to be bratty, or so Pearl would say. And now, no matter what she did, he just wouldn't listen to her.

"I told you… my real name is Platinum. You can call me Platinum! We're friends now. You can call me by my name. You don't have to protect me anymore," she pleaded, unable to handle being the damsel in distress anymore. She was planning to leave – she'd be going to the battle frontier, no matter how melancholy it was to leave Pearl and Diamond. The only problem was Pearl insisted on protecting her no matter what. She had pokemon, she knew how to battle, and she could handle it. Pearl was flustered, stricken by her tone of voice. He blushed, a bit intimidated.

"I-I know that, Little Miss." He turned away from her face, unable to look her in the eye. He yanked his scarf to give him a bit more breathing space and stuffed his hands into his pockets.

"Then why must you insist on calling me Little Miss? Diamond understands that we're friends and that he's not my bodyguard anymore."

"See, Dia would do whatever you say," Pearl explained, laughing at how Diamond would be at her every whim.

"But aren't we all friends now?" She kept her argument solid. He sighed, trying to find the right words.

"It's just… stuck, alright? I can't bring myself to call you that. I'm so used to calling you Little Miss, ya' know?" He scratched the back of his head, embarrassed by the whole ordeal. Platina blankly stared at his expression.

"I don't understand."

"Just forget about it… Um, Platinum." He stopped, trying to make it feel right on his tongue. He furiously rubbed his head in annoyance as he groaned. "See? It just doesn't sound right, Little Miss!"

She couldn't help but laugh.

"I didn't make a joke." Pearl scowled childishly.

"It's quite alright, Pearl. I think I understand now." She walked away with a small smile adorning her flushed face. Pearl raised an eyebrow, unsure what just occurred. Platinum giggled.

Pearl could be really stupid sometimes, but most of the time he did have a point to his nonsense. Now, she realized, she wanted him to keep calling her Little Miss, too.

It just wouldn't be the same otherwise.
