The Other Miko
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or either miko, although like both of them, I wish he were mine:)
A miko walked through the trees, rapidly and with purpose. Alone and numb, she strode away from the situation she had inadvertently witnessed. Again. Her hanyou had stood in the clearing before her, held lovingly in the arms of the other miko, the one linked to her through their shared pull towards Inuyasha and the machinations of the shikon no tama.
She had stumbled across them, really. Coming across the hanyou in this area made it seem almost as if he had been waiting for her. It was unusual for her to chance across his path. Usually one of them would have deliberately sought the other out. She thought idly that she could have expected he would be in this area so close to the goshinboku. But no. As if she could have hoped for Inuyasha to seek her out while the other miko was nearby.
She continued to walk away from her vision of those two together as the eerie soul collectors ghosted through the trees behind her. She knew that the other woman's claim on the hanyou was strong, strong enough to rival her own, and yet she could not reconcile herself to letting the other miko have him in her place.
Were one of them to outlive the other, as she admitted to herself was seeming increasingly likely as Naraku's schemes progressed, the one left would surely get the best of everything. The one left alive would gain a complete soul and the fixed place at Inuyasha's side that she had grown to desire. But this vision could not be realized, not while the hanyou's affections remained as divided as the mikos' soul.
That wouldn't stop her from trying, though.
She felt numb tinged with fury. She tired of the way the hanyou would be true to one of them until the other was nearby and then go tearing off after the most recently arrived miko. She had known him for long enough that he should have chosen her by now!
She was tired and sickened of him going between the two.
She sighed. Inevitably, it seemed, the hanyou would always succumb to his feelings for the other miko. He would always find his way back to that woman's readily-waiting arms. She always came back for him. He always came back to her too, simple as that.
In the end, he would always choose the other miko.
A/N: Which miko will it be then? I have read so many fics that portray Kagome and Kikyo as polar opposites rather than foils, emphasizing the differences between them rather than those dratted similarities. I thought the similarities have been too generally glossed over. They look alike, they are both mikos (Shikon mikos at that), they share a soul, they're both after Naraku in their own way, they're both rival love interests of Inuyasha…the obvious list goes on and on. Read with an open mind, this story can be applied to either miko. Which one will it be? 400 words.
