Put A Little Love in Your Heart

"Alexandria Loretta Thomas, you get down here right this second!" my mother screamed. I winced, knowing that she only uses my full name when I'm in trouble. Climbing out of bed, I readied myself for the hurricane that was sure to come. Finally, I opened my bedroom door and headed down the stairs into the living room where my mother was standing.
"Would you kindly explain to me when exactly you were going to tell me that you were accepted into Harvard?" she asked. I only noticed now that she wasn't angry at all; she was ecstatic. In fact, she'd be jumping off the walls if it weren't for her hand, which was wrapped firmly around one of the banisters in the staircase handrail.
"Oh. Look, it's no big deal, alright? It just wasn't the right time," I replied, looking at the floor.
"Not the right time? Of course it's the right time, honey! We have to get everything ready, your dorm, your tuition, your class schedule. Oh I am going to be so busy! We need to celebrate. How about we go out to dinner tonight? You can bring that friend of yours, Trudy."
"It's Tracy," I murmured, but she was already half way out of the room, babbling into the phone that was pressed between her face and her shoulder.
