SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME
Percy glanced around and awkwardly shoved his hands in his pockets. There were people everywhere, teenagers that Percy had never seen before dancing wildly around him. As far as Saturday nights go, Percy would much rather be battling a drakon. Annabeth was late for the dance she had invited him to, and now Percy was left standing by the door looking like an idiot.
A hand rested lightly on his shoulder, and Percy's hand tightened around Riptide in his pocket. A soft female voice whispered in his ear, "You clean up nice, Seaweed Brain."
Percy relaxed and took his hands out of his pockets. "Hey, Annabeth." He turned and saw what she was wearing: a knee length black dress and black heels that made her about an inch taller than him. Her hair was gathered into a bun at the back of her head, with a few curls falling around her face. Percy had to blink a few times before he could regain his ability to speak before he said, "You look amazing."
Annabeth smiled and held out her hand. "Want to dance?"
Percy smiled, took her hand, and let himself be dragged onto the dance floor.
Percy knew he wasn't a great dancer. Compared to everyone else, he had two left feet. But that didn't stop Annabeth from repeatedly grabbing him to dance with her. He even found himself brave enough to ask her to dance a few times.
About halfway through the dance, Percy and Annabeth were sitting on some of the chairs that lined the perimeter of the gym watching people dance.
"You know," Percy said suddenly, "for as long as we've been together and for all we've been through, we're probably the only couple here without a song."
"A song?" Annabeth laughed. "What made you think of that?"
Percy started laughing with her. "I really couldn't tell you. It just popped into my head. I kind of want there to be this one song that only makes me think of you, one song that no matter where we are we can dance to."
Annabeth looked into Percy's eyes, and her face grew serious. "You really want this, don't you, Seaweed Brain?"
"More than anything, wise girl."
A smile grew on Annabeth's face. "Alright then, how about this? The next song that comes on will be 'our song.'"
Percy's face split into a huge grin. "Sounds good to me."
The song they were listening to, some top 40 pop something or other that Percy was unfamiliar with, ended, Percy stood and gave Annabeth an over dramatic sweeping bow. "Care to dance, my lady?"
Annabeth was laughing again. "I guess this is our song then." She took his outstretched hand.
The music started playing—Michael Bublé's "Save the Last Dance for Me"—and Percy pulled Annabeth close and started dancing.
"You're way off beat," Annabeth commented after about fifteen seconds.
Percy smiled, refusing to let Annabeth tease him. "But you're having a great time."
"I am," she admitted. "I guess we found our song."
"I guess we did."
Percy stopped dancing to kiss her, and when he pulled back Annabeth rested her head on his shoulder. They stayed like that, just holding each other, not moving, until the song was over.
Hey guys! I know I haven't been here in ages, freshman year of college has kept me busy! Homecoming was last weekend, so I wanted to write a little something for my boyfriend since he came down to see me. I don't own the song mentioned, but it is our song. :)
Leave me a review and let me know what you think! (Yes, I know it's not my best work, I wrote this between homework assignments.)
