The Prompt: Life Goes On by country artist LeAnn Rimes
As Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss looked at the coffin that was about to go into the ground she let out a cry and fell to her knees. She could not believe that she was burying the man she was going to marry. She had tried so hard to keep her emotions in check but she was finally breaking. When she felt hands on her arms she fought them until she finally realized who was putting their arms around her. She collapsed into his chest as soon as she was standing up.
Supervisory Special Agent in Charge Aaron Hotchner saw Emily lose it and his heart started breaking for her. He could not remember a time when he has not been in love with Emily and to see her hurting like this just about killed him. He saw both SSA Derek Morgan and SSA Spencer Reid try to get Emily off of the ground and when they failed he stepped forward and put his arm under hers and lifted her off of the ground. He was surprised when she fell into his chest as soon as he had her standing up.
He wrapped one arm around her waist and rubbed his other hand up and down her back as he whispered in here ear "Come on Em it will be alright. I promise you that it will be alright."
Emily tilted her head to look at Aaron and she said "Aaron I am not crying because he is dead. I am crying because I feel relieved and I should not feel that way. Nobody knows what he has done to me. He would not let me call off the wedding like I tried to many times. He abused me Aaron and he made me lose my baby."
Aaron's chest exploded with anger and he said "He did what? Why did you not tell me Emily? Why did you not tell anyone?"
Emily sighed. "Because I knew that if I did he would kill me or anyone that I told. I love you all too much Aaron. I could not lose anyone most of all I could not lose you. I love you Aaron. I have always loved you."
Aaron's chest tightened at Emily's words and then his heart started beating fast as he realized what she said. "I love you too Emily and I have for a long time. I know that you are hurting and it may not be for the reasons that I first thought but what I had to say will still work. Life goes on Emily. This time your life will go on with me. I want you Emily. I know this is not the best time to tell you that but I need for you to know that for however long you need to come to terms with this I will be waiting for you."
Emily smiled up at Aaron and said "I know that I should say that I want to wait but in all honesty I do not want to wait Aaron. I have waited for you for my whole life. Now that I know that you love me like I love you I want to be with you."
Aaron smiled down at Emily and nodded and then he bent his head and finally kissed the woman of his dreams. The kiss was everything that he had imagined it would be and yet it was more than he imagined. He felt that it was right for him to kiss her now.
