I do not own the wonderful characters of Joss Whedon. They just whisper in my head...

The first chapter is short, I know. I have chapter 2 written, but I will only post it if someone reviews (muahaha). Or, if you don't like it, review to tell me NOT to put up chapter 2. Whatever, just please tell me what you think!

It began as a typical day at the Magic Box. Anya yelled at five customers in the first three minutes, nearly scaring an elderly witch into a heart attack. Giles took off his glasses, stammered a bit, and glared at Anya before escorting the enraged customer off the premises before she could finish the no-legs spell she was muttering. Xander tripped in the doorway, knocking over a stand of imported kesh-laz and scattering the costly summoning orbs across the floor. Dawn rushed to pick them up, pocketing one in the process. Buffy, who was usually on the lookout for such behavior from her kleptomaniac sister, was too busy talking to Tara and Willow about possibly casting a locating spell to notice.

"Dawn," called Giles across the soon to be crowded room. "Could you bring a jar of Portal Powder over to the counter please?"

"Sure, I'll be right there," she said, bouncing over to the shelves that lined the walls of the shop. "Let's see, Pesky Pixie Remover… Love Lozenges—ooh they come in lemon!... Scented Shaman Puffs…" She paused at this last jar and lifted the lid a crack. She sniffed them. "Whew!!! Ugh! Scented is maybe the wrong word… I'd say stinky!"

"Dawn!" Giles' voice was stern and impatient. "I have a customer waiting for his Portal Powder, so if you wouldn't mind…"

Dawn winced guiltily. She had maybe gotten a bit sidetracked. "All right, all right, keep your pants on. I'm coming." She quickly scanned the remaining shelves and located a small blue jar of sparkling powder. The label on the side read 'Portal Powder.' Dawn picked it up and held it up in the air triumphantly.

"Found it—oh crap!" Dawn dropped the jar as she crashed headlong into a customer, catching her jacket on the engraved athame he was holding. CRASH went the jar, smashing into bits scattering its shimmering contents across the Magic Box. At almost the same time there was a loud RRRRRIPPP as the brand new pocket of Dawn's brand new (albeit not very expensive) jacket was torn at the seams.

Giles, Buffy, Xander, Anya, Tara, Willow, and Dawn all stared in horror as the ill-gotten summoning orb flew in a wide arc from the severed garment. Time seemed to slow down as it fell, catching the light so it seemed to glow. THUD… if the sound of the Orb landing in a pile of Portal Powder seemed loud in the horrible silence, it was nothing compared to the sudden, deafening CRACK that followed.

And that was when it ceased to be a typical day at the Magic Box.

Soo... what'd you think??? Pleeeeease review!!!!
