I suggest listening to "Far Away" by Nickelback while reading this story.
A/N I don't own PLL
Thirty-six year old Spencer Cavanaugh filed into the auditorium with her class and the rest of the school. She glanced up and saw the flier. "Career Day. All students REQUIRED to attend with their homeroom teachers." She sighed. She glanced around the auditorium and saw her sixteen year old daughter, Audrey Cavanaugh and her ten year old son Porter Cavanaugh. They attended the same school because it's an intermediate school. She also saw Aria Fitz and her homeroom and Emily Fields-St. Germain sitting with the other teachers who didn't have a class this period. She thought she saw Hanna but that'd be insane because Hanna doesn't work at Rosewood Prep.
"Shhhh Quiet Down." Principal Ezra Fitz said. Spencer took a seat upfront. The auditorium finally got settled and Career Day began. "Our first speaker is Mrs. Hanna Rivers, talking about her personal experience with entrepreneurship." So she had seen Hanna. She also talked about how she met Caleb.
Spencer thought back to when Toby left.
"Bye." Spencer said tears flowing down her face. She gripped a hold of Toby.
"It's eleven months. I'll be back in eleven months." He whispered into her hair. Audrey and Porter had already said their good-byes to him. She remembers standing there waving as the bus pulled away.
"Two more months," Spencer thinks "Two more months till Toby's back from his deployment."
She heard Hanna talk in the background of her thoughts. "And now," Hanna said "I'm pleased to announce the nominations for this year's Teacher of the Year award. Mrs. Fitz, Mrs. Fields-St. Germain, and Mrs. Cavanaugh would you please join me on stage." Spencer rose to her feet and proceeded up the stage. She gave hugs to her three best friends and took her spot where Ezra guided her. Hanna started babbling on about how it gave her great pleasure to announce the homecoming blah Dee blah blah. All of a sudden Spencer heard "Daddy?" She saw Aria, Hanna, Emily and Ezra's faces light-up. So, Spencer turned around to see what was causing the commotion and saw Toby, still dressed in his military get-up. She saw Porter and Audrey run up onstage and tackle him. She ran into the arms of waiting Toby sobbing. She had a huge smile on her face and realized he was home. He was safe and her whole family was together.
