Chapter 1- Phillip POV.
The Circus Life was the good life. We put shows ever day, apart from Monday and Thursday, which were our days off. Today it's Saturday, our busiest day. There tons of people out there, screaming our names. I'm backstage, brushing down Charles' costume, as my girlfriend Anne, twirls up, clad in nothing apart a purple leotard. She looks gorgeous! "Looking good, Charles." She says, nodding towards our little friend. I straighten up and slide an arm around Anne's waist. "Got time to talk?" I ask, but Anne shakes her head and pecks me on the cheek as she runs away and onto the stage, getting ready to do her trapeze act. I shake my head, laughing. Nothing stopping that girl! As we end the show, I help Anne get out of her wig and costume, as she changes behind a red sheet. "Why are you hiding behind the sheet, Annie? I've seen you enough times already!" I say, but Anne persists. I think it is her elder brother, W.D that's lurking in the corner which puts her off. God, he puts me off too! W.D is super over-protective of Anne, for some reason or another. I say it's because I'm so…white, that he thinks I'm also racist! "Phillip!" A little blonde girl runs up to me, hugging me round the waist. It's my favourite little Barnum girl, Helen! Her elder sister, Caroline, follows her, skipping. Anne puts her head around the sheet and says, "Who do we have here?" as she reveals herself, wearing red shorts and a thin white tee. The girls laugh as Anne plays with them and tells them stories. "Phillip! The Circus is doing so well with you, and may I say I prefer our arrangement by a load!" Barnum walks up to me and shakes my hand. In short, our arrangement is that I work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday if he works on a Friday. Its tiring, but it's with Anne, so it's OK. "Thank you, Barnum. Hello, Charity, it's nice too see you again." Charity, Barnum's wife, is a pretty blonde, quiet and reserved, way off Anne's fun, outgoing character. We spend some time talking, and after about an hour, the Barnum family goes off to their home. I hold out my arm and Anne takes it, and like a proper couple should do, we walk on home.
