Streak flew out of the apartment like she'd been spit out of hell, her long blonde hair flowing behind her and whipping her neck. Tears stung her cheeks as her eyes changed rapidly from red to yellow to aqua to bronze.
She tripped and was sent sprawling to the hard cement, landing with a sickening thud. She let out a desperate sob and lay down. The streak of rainbiw in her hair hung limply over her face.
A woman walked past and frowned. "You okay, girl?" she asked, bending down. Streak jumped slightly, pushing her hair out of her face. Her chin scrunched up, trying not to let out another sob. But her tears were too strong now to hold in. She erupted into cries, pain grabbing at her heart every time.
"Whoa, baby, slow down!" the woman said, sitting on the curb. "What happened, child? Did someone hurt you?" she asked, but Streak didn't respond. "What's your name, child?" the woman asked softly, brushing her hair back.
"Tr-trinity............" Streak whispered, her voice breaking. The woman nodded and helped her up. "Come on, baby, let's find you some help."

Streak sat in the center of the small room, her whole body shaking. She silently picked up a plate and walked to a lone table, sitting down and poking at what looked like recycled food.
"Nasty, huh?" a blonde boy asked. His bright green eyes seemed hopeful, a rarity in the shelter. She smiled slightly. "Yeah." she said, her eyes flashing purple. The boy suddenly jumped. "Holy shit!" he whispered, and sat down.
Streak blushed heavily, not used to talking to boys. "You're a mutant?" he whispered. "Me too. I'm Boyd." he said, grinning. Streak blushed again. "Trinity...." she said, nodding.
"Here, have my pudding....." Silence said, handing it to her.
Streak looked up suddenly. "Thanks." she said.
The two kids sitting at the table, so close, both so alike. They almost looked like siblings.......
