What Doesn't Kill You

"Artemis, listen to me. How could you betray your oath and your hunters?" Apollo snapped.

"Just one. I wanted just one child of mine in this world. And you have to admit, she's beautiful." The maiden said, codling her baby girl. Apollo stood over his niece. She was extraordinarily beautiful. Even more beautiful than Aphrodite's children.

"What's her name, sister?" He asked.

"Alexandria Nicole. Alex for short."The maiden wept tears of joy.

"She'll be spunky, like you." Apollo said. Artemis nodded. But she knew she couldn't keep her beautiful baby.

"Let's go. The sun should be up soon. " She slid into the sun chariot. Her little baby remained silent. Sleeping was the way Artemis wanted to remember her baby. They pulled up to a little house on a corner. It looked quaint enough. Artemis dropped the baby on the doorstep and kissed her daughter's forehead one last time.

"I love you." She whispered.

-15 years later-

"Alexandria Nicole Carters! Get your ass up now!" Baba yelled. I rolled out of bed, hating my life. I took a shower and made my breakfast. This was gonna be a bad day. I walked onto the bus and saw the cookie flying at my head. I sat down, cursing under my breathe. I prayed school would be ok. My new year, new teachers. Last year, I told the principal to suck my dick. Hey, there was no other way I'd the final say. She would make my life hell this year. I knew it. As the bell rang, my breakfast churned. I saw the principal's office. We had a new principal. Phew. He smiled at me. I walked by, an eerie feeling in my stomach. I walked to my first class. AP Calculus. Not many students took AP classes, let alone AP Calculus. I noticed there was a new student in the class. I sat down beside him, but remained silent. My minds eye seemed excited by his darkness, his black hair and ...well dark personality. The dark vibes. It was enthralling. I felt myself staring but when he was turning his head to look, my gaze moved up to a poster. Someone tapped my shoulder. My eyes fell and locked with his.

"I'm Nico." He said.

"Alex." I replied. He smiled. I smiled, blushing. We began to talk about our interests and hit it off. We found we liked the same type of music(Especially 3 Days Grace and Black Veil Brides and Kansas) We both liked the song Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas.

"You know, you're the only other person I know who likes that song, or even knows it." I said. He nodded.

"I don't doubt that." He replied. Suddenly, the door flew off the hinges and some giant bull thing tore through the classroom. None of the other students saw it. The teacher stood up.

"Nico,"

"I know. Prius or the Cherokee?"

"Take the Jeep. It goes faster."

"Hello? Is someone going to explain to me why there's a giant bull typed thing in the classroom?" Nico's face went ashen. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me towards a Jeep Cherokee.

"Okay, What's going on? Where are we going?"

"The safest place right now." He replied. I didn't say anything until we left the city limits.

"How come no one else saw it?" I asked.

"This is going to sound crazy, but try to believe as much as you can. The reason no one else saw it was because their all mortal. There's something called the mist that bars them from seeing what we see. You're a demi god, child of the gods. "

"That actually explains alot." I replied.
