Just a oneshot to prove I'm NOT DEAD and STILL ALIVE. Seriously, I'm in an extreme case of Writer's Block and it's not showing any signs to be vanishing soon, even though I have had some minor cases of inspiration reguarding this and my other stories. Anyway, I managed to churn this out after (finally) playing and beating Portal, which is the shortest game I have ever played.

This takes place directly after the GLaDOS battle and is told in Chell's point of view.

Still alive…?

How?

The way I was spun through the air and tossed onto the pavement…it was a miracle I was still in one piece. The drop I fell from would be enough to kill anyone.

Why can't I feel anything? Shouldn't I be writhing in pain? Is every bone in my body broken? My senses are beginning to return…I can only feel a tingling in my arms and legs.

What's that sound?

…Birds? I haven't heard birds in a long time…

Is that…is that a tree? My vision is blurred…the sky is so vivid a blue it hurts my eyes. I blinked, trying to make out the area around me.

It was some sort of parking lot. Burning debris lay everywhere, some of it dangerously close to me. I couldn't feel the heat it gave off…I hope it wasn't burning me.

I can't move. Even though I know I should be alarmed by this, it doesn't bother me. The pavement beneath me has neither texture nor temperature. Everything is numb. Even my mind.

Somehow, I felt the cold, metallic hand clamp down around my left ankle. It began dragging me, and that's when the feeling began to creep back into my body and mind. Panic flared though me. I found the strength to flail my arm, trying to grab hold of anything…anything to prevent the grasp around my ankle to continue pulling me back to the hell I escaped from…!

My side felt as though it was on fire. I must have landed on it. I still fought through the pain, trying to find anything…anything!

I just escaped this crazed place! There was no way I would be dragged back in!

"Thank…you for part…icipating….in this…Aperture…Science…computerized en…richment…activity…" my captor droned. "Please…report to…the detention…center…"

It was then that I found my voice.

"No!"

With that one word, agony shot up my throat, expelled from my mouth in the form of blood. I coughed, blood spilling from my mouth, my chest and side in almost unbearable pain. My vision was going dark.

I wish I had not survived the fall.
