Ten thousand years after the "end", the scorched sky has faded, the fires no longer burn, wild mutants no longer roam, and the wars? You ask, they rage as never before. Humanity emerged from below the ground around 6,000 years ago, before the skies had completely healed. And now they still fight their petty wars. The world of today, that is June 29, 10,000 AE, still hasn't recovered from the end, theres even a rumors of surviving mutants high in the Appalachian mountain ranges. You'd be surprised how much of the mountains are left, the scorched sky rarely rained, so they barely have eroded at all, in fact the world looks much like it did before the "end". This is because 6,000 years ago when humanity merged from their exile they planted seeds of plants long extinct, and in that 6,000 year time span, the world has become green again. But enough of that, in the ruins below a decisive battle is taking place. Between the Rebels known as the EL, or Eastern Liberators, and the Kingdom of Long Island. Now you may think they're fighting with swords and bows, But that is not the case. Not all of the technology from before the end was lost. These ruins are really a hidden entrance to a pre-end underground armory. You see, During the final decades of our world, national governments set up massive underground armories and sanctuaries as well as power plants and factories. The EL are fighting a last stand against the Kingdom of Long Island, if they lose this battle the war will end and the Kingdom will have united the eastern seaboard. If the EL win, the South Eastern seaboard may have a chance for freedom.
On the ground, EL troops are behind makeshift barricades. The Kingdom soldiers are advancing on their position. EL commander Eli Roamer is deciding what he must do. Shells from artillery burst above ground as freedom fighters desperately struggle against overwhelming odds. Eli picks up a Rifle and says to the captains around him, "We must charge." Eli slowly begins to exit the bunker. The three captains stare at him in disbelief.
Captain Günter "But sir, they outnumber us 5 to 1, we can't win!"
Eli Roamer "Can't, eh? We'll see about that."
Eli walks out and his troops look at him. He says nothing, only raises his rifle above his head by one hand. His troops understand, all or nothing. Charge to the death. Eli Brings his rifle down to his waist, and begins running. He hears the footfalls of his fellow fighters and says"you wanna live forever?" the artillery abruptly stops, and Eli stops behind the last, and largest, barricade. His troops are on either side of the opening of the barricade. He gives the signal for quiet waiting, The march of enemy soldiers echoes throughout the ruins, when it seems the steps have grown to a roar. Eli cries " Forward!" and he sprints from behind the barricade, he sees the enemy soldiers surprised and unprepared, and opens fire. The roar of gunfire that follows is deafening, EL troops clash with KLI troops, grenades explode, artillery fires, bodies of the dead cover the ground, and still the fighting continues. Eli throws an incendiary grenade at an approaching squad, the grenade bursts, the squad is burnt instantly where they stood. Eli feels sick, he has always hated killing, but when a man is pushed so far as he. He can take no more. He loads a new clip and stands, prepared to die. Only to see no more kingdom troops in the ruins.
Eli "Can't win, eh Günter?"
Captain Günter "Well, that's the third time you've proven me wrong Commander Eli."
With a smile on his face, Eli sets his rifle on his shoulder. Maybe their struggle isn't in vain, maybe his people can be freed.
