She is always the early riser. Her eyes flutter open and she lets herself be entranced by the faint morning glow by the window. She moves, but the blanket tightens, suffocating her even more so she stays in her position. She turns to face Natsume's neck. His face is serene and calm; it doesn't look stressed and forced like he does on usual days. It was a waste he had his eyes closed, his eyes – those deep, ruby, piercing eyes – would eventually make her lost in seconds.
What could he be dreaming of?, she wonders. His expression is beautiful. And they are both in a moment where she is not a nullifier and he is not a pyromaniac. There are no alices. There are no barriers. There is just them. And as she looks at him, she wishes he's dreaming of a world where Kaoru is there. Where his dad and Aoi is there. They're all complete (—because dreams don't miss the dead
And his mother is with him; warm and alive)
And she'd be there too, Mikan hopes. Even if she is standing in the corner of his dreams, she hopes of her presence. She hopes he still longs for her even in sleep.
She is still for a moment and she feels his breathing pattern (—the kind that makes her feel at home, makes her feel alive) and she feels his heartbeat (—slow beating that makes up for his absence.) And there is nothing more she'd ever want in her life than to be in this moment.
And then he grumbles faintly, arm stretching and finding its way around her waist.
"Good morning, sleepyhead." She whispers. His eyes slowly open, eyelashes fluttering and he still has no idea how beautiful he is. And he looks around first; somehow they've both ended up in his room. And today is a beautiful Sunday. He turns his head and looks at her, furrowing his eyebrows and she laughs that tinkling, little laugh. "Had a nice sleep?"
He stops for a moment before she notices the sides of his mouth forming into a smile. He nods and pulls her closer to him.
"I dreamt of you," he whispers.
And there's nothing ever more perfect than that.
Nothing.
