Prelude

A tuneless hum broke the quiet peacefulness that had fallen over Southern Thanalan that particular morning. The source of the noise was a lone male lalafell that was merrily bouncing through the scorching hot desert. Equipped with a mining pickaxe that was slightly too big for him, this lala was heading toward the rich mythril mining nodes that lay at the furthest end of the Sagolii Desert.

The little lala was so happy in his own little world it made him completely oblivious to his surroundings. He failed to notice when an ominous shadow dimmed the light of the searing sun. He finally noticed that he was not alone when the shadow got closer and darker and an air of danger settled around the area.

The lala came to a shuddering halt and instantly began to quiver in fear. He gulped loudly several times before ever so slowly turning his head to see what exactly he was up against. After what felt like forever to the poor lala, he was finally able to loose the giant sandworm. He collapsed to the floor in relief and attempted to catch his breath., unbeknownst to him that true danger was spying on him from afar…

Once the lala felt safe and confident enough to continue, he set out once more toward his final destination. Upon arrival, he immediately noticed that Hab was missing from his usual camp spot. The afternoon passed by rather uneventfully as he hit away at the rocks around him. Several hours after he begun, the lala was just about to round up when he felt a sharp whipping pain across his back that lifted him cleanly off his feet hurtling him straight into the nearby rocks, dazing him. Before he could recover he felt something penetrate his chest. All he felt after that was a searing pain as the world around him faded to black.

Close by stood a figure that grinned in delight as the light faded from the severely injured lala's eyes. He stood over the fresh corpse of the lala for several moments, taking in the glorious sight before slowly walking away, letting out a spine chilling laugh as he went…
