AN: One shot, which sorta sums up why, in my other two X-men stories, Rogue and Gambit aren't together. THEY ARE A FANTASTIC COUPLE, don't get me wrong, I just felt like writing some romantic angst, and I've been lsitening to Britt Nicole's version of "Last Christmas", which somewhat inspired this. Not my best, just had to write. That's all.

If you don't like it, I'm sorry. Like I said, not my best.

I don't own X-men. And the One-Shot title is from the song. Listen to Britt Nicole's version, it's really good!

Last Christmas

RDG

Rogue sat at the window, looking out into the snowy scene. She smiled sadly as she watched the scene play out. Bobby using his powers over ice to gang up on the other students; Jubilee and Kitty working together as a team, melting and phasing through the powdery snow as the Snowball war continued in the Mansion property.

Her green eyes held crystalline tears as she remembered the year before, this same day, this same hour…

Christmas Day. It was a rare day in the lives of the X-men. The Christmas Eve party had lasted well into the night, and finally, everyone had gone to their rooms. Rogue and Gambit were the first ones up, sitting by the warm remains of the fire by the fire place.

He held her gloved hand tightly, red eyes grinning into her own. Rogue leaned against Gambit, her own eyes closed.

"I love ya, Swamp Rat."

"Ya love meh?" He asked, looking down at her with surprise.

"Ya deaf?"

"Non… " he chuckled, which started to turn into a laugh.

"Why ya laughing'?" She asked, her eyes brilliant with expectation.

"Mon cher, I love you too… But, it will never work between us."

Shock, followed by a rending tear.

"Wha?" was all that she could utter, her voice hoarse.

"Cher, ya gotta know dat what Ah say is true." He told her seriously.

And with that, Rogue stepped back, violently so, and slapped him. Her eyes blazed.

"Ah do see! Ya selfish son of a crocodile! Ya got the heart of a rodent, ya do!" She whirled away, storming out of the room, she called over her shoulder, "Don' EVER call meh again! Ah never wanna even hear yer name again!"

She moaned in pain. Her heart still bled. After so many days of trying to forget him… the memory of him woke up in her mind. It was this same hour, that she had broken up with him.

"Swamp Rat… Ah still love you." She mourned. Her heart still felt like it had a rending hole inside.

How could she ever give her heart away to anyone else?

So, sorta based off true events. But mostly based from the song. Thanks for reading it, if you made it this far. :)
